EPA Regional Chief Resigns over Flint Water Crisis

A regional chief of the Environmental Protection Agency has resigned amid the scandal with Flint, Michigan's water.

According to a statement released by the EPA, Susan Hedman, head of the agency's regional office in Chicago whose jurisdiction includes Michigan, will step down as of February 1 to focus on "solely on the restoration of Flint's drinking water."

High levels of lead have been detected in the impoverished city's water since officials switched from the Detroit municipal system and began drawing from the Flint River as a cost-saving measure in April 2014. Some children's blood has tested positive for lead, a potent neurotoxin linked to learning disabilities, lower IQ and behavioral problems.

While much of the blame has been directed at Gov. Rick Snyder and state officials, particularly the Department of Environmental Quality, some have faulted the EPA's Region 5 office for not acting more forcefully.

The EPA order states that the state notified the EPA in April of 2015 that Flint was not treating its water for lead contamination. Hedman and other regional officials "voiced concern" over the next few months but did not organize a task force until October of 2015, after the city switched back to the Detroit water system.

"Mismanagement has plagued the region for far too long and Ms. Hedman's resignation is way overdue," said U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Force against American Civilians
July 16, 2016  -  Pentagon approves U.N. use of force against American Civilians

With all the credible threats from Black Lives Matter, AMERICA is slipping away fast.
The federal government have announced their support for a set of principles that allow U.N. troops to police and use force in order to “protect citizens” in the event of an armed conflict.

Children don't come cheap: Cost of raising one hits $233,610

Children keep getting more expensive to raise -- fashion is pricier and so are doctor visits and day care, according to the U.S. government.

At least food’s still relatively cheap.

The cost for a middle-income family to raise a child born in 2015 to age 18 is $233,610, a 3 percent increase from the previous year, the Department of Agriculture said Monday. Housing was the largest expense, at 29 percent of the cost. Wealthier families, who live in costlier neighborhoods and are more likely to use day care, spend more than twice as much on their children as poorer households.

The USDA has prepared the report almost every year since 1960. It tracks seven categories of spending, including housing, transportation and clothing, and is used to help courts and government agencies estimate child-support costs. It excludes payments for college, as well as financial contributions from sources other than parents, including government aid.

The cost of child-raising has outpaced inflation because of rising health-care costs and additional money spent on clothing, which tends to fluctuate based on fashion trends. Lower projected energy costs, meanwhile, are giving parents a break on transportation expenses, notably driving.

One good piece of news for parents: This year’s increase is below the historic average annual increase of 4.3 percent.

“Those trips you made to soccer games, driving children around, became cheaper,” Mark Lino, the USDA economist who wrote the report, said in a telephone call with reporters. "Costs for child-care and education have really gone up among upper-income groups."

Per-child expenses go down as families grow larger, and teenagers cost more than younger children, largely because they eat more and have greater transportation needs, Lino said.

The study defines middle-class as having before-tax income of $59,200 to $107,000. A family earning less than that before taxes will probably spend $174,690 in 2015 dollars raising a child to age 18, while parents earning more than $107,499 may pay $372,210, according to the study.

The urban Northeast, where an affluent married couple will spend $397,110 to raise a child, had the highest costs, the USDA said. Child costs are lowest in rural areas, where a two-parent family will spend $146,310.

Child-care and education is the second-biggest expense for middle- and higher-income households, followed by food. Nutrition ranked second for lower-income families, which are more likely to care for children at home, according to the study.

Transit costs ate up a greater share of budgets for children ages 15 to 17, as many teenagers get drivers’ licenses. Child-care costs were greatest until age 6, when attending school reduces the need for daycare.

USDA’s most recent study was in 2014, before the department revised its methodology to incorporate more current data.

Housing has accounted for almost a third of costs to raise a child since the first study done in 1960. The USDA calculation takes into account the need for more living space as families grow, although it excludes potential expenses such as moving to a more expensive neighborhood in search of better schools.

In 1960, housing costs to raise a child were estimated at $25,229 -- equal to $202,020 in 2015 dollars. Food was the second-biggest expense then, at 24 percent, with transportation at 16 percent.

“While housing costs have increased over time, changes in American agriculture have resulted in lower food costs,” said Angie Tagtow, executive director for the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion at the USDA.

Health care accounted for just 4 percent of costs in 1960, less than half the 2015 level. Education and child care were 16 percent of 2015 costs, up from 2 percent in 1960, when most children were cared for at home.

NASA / NOAA Climate Data Is Fake Data

NOAA shows the Earth red hot in December, with record heat in central Africa.

The map above is fake. NOAA has almost no temperature data from Africa, and none from central Africa. They simply made up the record temperatures.

SHOCK POLL: Check Out Where Most Illegal Immigrants Live In The USA

6-in-10 unauthorized immigrants live in just 20 major metropolitan areas.  Is it any surprise that Trump is not a fan of "sanctuary cities" and wants to do away with them?

From Pew Research:

Most of the United States’ 11.1 million unauthorized immigrants live in just 20 major metropolitan areas, with the largest populations in New York, Los Angeles and Houston, according to new Pew Research Center estimates based on government data.

The analysis shows that the nation’s unauthorized immigrant population is highly concentrated, more so than the U.S. population overall. In 2014, the 20 metro areas with most unauthorized immigrants were home to 6.8 million of them, or 61% of the estimated nationwide total. By contrast, only 36% of the total U.S. population lived in those metro areas.

But the analysis also shows that unauthorized immigrants tend to live where other immigrants live. Among lawful immigrants – including naturalized citizens and noncitizens – 65% lived in those top metros.

By far the biggest unauthorized immigrant populations were in the New York and Los Angeles metro areas (1.2 million and 1 million, respectively). No other metro area approached a million. Among the top 20 areas, the smallest unauthorized immigrant populations included Orlando (110,000) and Austin (100,000).

Droves of Canadian Doctors Opt Out of Euthanasia

Dozens of Canadian doctors who signed up to provide lethal injections have changed their minds, according to medical officials.

At least 24 doctors in Ontario have asked to be removed from a list of physicians willing to participate in Canada’s Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) law, passed in June. Some 30 more have requested their names be put on hold.

Jeff Blackmer, vice president of the Canadian Medical Association, said some doctors initially think they are helping patients end their suffering but find the reality much different.

“We’re seeing doctors who go through one experience and it’s just overwhelming, it’s too difficult,” he said. “And those are the ones who say, ‘Take my name off the list. I can’t do it anymore.’”

Ontario, one of the only provinces so far to track the data, currently has a list of 137 doctors willing to participate in assisted suicide. Of those, 107 are willing to administer a lethal injection or prescribe lethal drugs. The other 30 chose only to assess patients for eligibility.

Common Ingredient For Cereal Now Considered Racist

Yup! You guessed it folks.  Milk is now racist.  A student from the University of California - Long Beach wrote an op-ed arguing milk represents hate.

The Dailey49er reported: When you think of milk, what first comes to your mind? If you’re a millennial, you probably think of strong bones, Got Milk? commercials, or maybe eating your favorite cereal while watching cartoons on a Saturday morning.

What about racism? White nationalism? If you’re having trouble finding the connection between these institutions and milk, you’re not alone. You, along with the rest of the nation, have been so accustomed to hearing the benefits of milk that you probably didn’t even realize the subtle racism hidden in our health facts.

It may not surprise you that the United States was founded on racism. That every institution we uphold has racist roots that are sometimes difficult to catch and even harder to fight against. This phenomenon affects our voter ID laws, state testing and,  yes, even our federal dietary guidelines. But how can our health guidelines, a system meant to be built upon scientific fact alone, have racist messages? Where there is a deep-rooted tradition to suppress an entire race’s existence, there’s a way.

The federal endorsement of milk in American diets contributes to the problem by uncritically pushing people to drink milk, despite the potential detriment it has on non-white people’s health.
