Zimbabwe sells wildlife
May 10, 2016
-  Drought-ravaged Zimbabwe is offering some of its wild animals for sale and use the income to save the remainder.  They plan to destock its parks, inviting buyers with the capacity to acquire and manage wildlife to bid.  Last year, Zimbabwe exported 60 elephants with half of them going to China, where the animals are highly valued for their tusks.

Bibi tours Afrika
July 3, 2016
 -  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to begin a state visit to Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Rwanda.  Trip marks 40 years since Operation Entebbe, Uganda.  He will begin with a ceremony in Uganda to commemorate 40 years since the Entebbe rescue operation.  The ceremony will take place in the old terminal where over 100 Israelis and Jews were held hostage by Palestinian and German Muslim terrorists.

Israel is hoping that the visit will usher in a new era in which it provides African states with security and agricultural assistance in return for support in international forums.  African dignitaries have visited Israel, including Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.  Dore Gold, a senior Israeli diplomat, traveled to South Africa in March,.

The Greatest Hostage Rescue in History
http://youtu.be/FYU4iOWJ9pU

Operation Entebbe was a successful counter-terrorist hostage-rescue mission carried out by commandos of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on 4 July 1976.  On 27 June an Air France plane with 248 passengers was hijacked by PLO. The hijackers had the stated objective to free 40 Palestinian terrorists imprisoned in Israel in exchange for the hostages.

The Tel Aviv to Paris flight was diverted after a stopover in Athens via Benghazi to Entebbe, Uganda. The Ugandan government supported the hijackers, and dictator Idi Amin personally welcomed them. After moving all hostages from the aircraft to an airport building, the hijackers separated Jews from the larger group and forced them into a separate room.

The 148 non-Israeli hostages were released and flown out to Paris.

Tell Uganda its called - ISRAEL
July 5, 2016
 -  Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ceremony marked the 40th anniversary of the Entebbe Raid.  He repeatedly referred to Israel as ‘Palestine’.  NOT a good sign.  Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s trip to Africa is to strengthen ties. The anniversary of the Entebbe Raid had special meaning for him, as his older brother, Yoni, who led the heroic hostage-rescue mission, was killed.

Idi Amin's son apologizes
July 5, 2016  -  Jaffar Amin
, the son of Ugandan despot Idi Amin, wants to come to Israel with a conciliatory message: 'I have a list of the five Entebbe victims from Israel, and I want to meet with their families to say sorry.'

Jaffar Amin was only 10 years old when Israeli commandos stormed the old terminal in Entebbe, rescuing the passengers of a hijacked Air France flight.  But he remembers the next morning and the reactions from his classmates well.

Uganda's Jews

The Abayudaya is a small isolated community of Jews living near the border with Kenya.  The founder discovered the true religion in the early 20th century, converting himself and sweeping many after him.  In a small eastern Ugandan village, Rabbi Gershom does Kiddush over wine at the beginning of Shabbat dinner as his wife, Tzieorah, removes a cloth covering the challah bread.

Gershom is the spiritual leader of the Abayudaya, a small community of African Jews living close to the town of Mbale, where the craggy edges of Mount Elgon mark the nearby border with Kenya.

"Shabbat shalom!" cry the arriving guests. The scene is recognizable to every Jewish family - except the main dish is stewed goat and mashed green banana, with sweet pineapple, fresh from the garden, for pudding.

Arms Sale to Kenya on Obama's Last Day
Feb 21, 2017
-  Lawmakers to request a congressional investigation of a $418 million U.S. weapons sale to Kenya approved by Obama on January 19, his last day in office.
The sale, approved by the State Department and privately notified to Congress on January 19, would allow Kenya to buy 14 weaponized crop-duster-like planes.

Why was the contract to produce the planes awarded to defense firm L3 Technologies  which has never produced such a plane, while a smaller, disabled veteran-owned company in North Carolina that already make those planes at a lower cost was not considered.
