Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev visits Crimea
Mar 31, 2014
He is visiting Simferopol, leading a delegation of Russian ministers to discuss development in the peninsula.
Crimea to be special economic zone with tax breaks to attract investors.

Companies that make investments with the authorities of Crimea and Sevastopol could be given tax breaks.
We have to ensure swindlers don’t take advantage of this state in transition.
It is our purpose to make the peninsula as attractive as possible for investment.

Medvedev drew parallels between Crimea and Kaliningrad, another Russian region that is geographically separated from Russia.
Crimea is ready to be integrated into the Russian ruble monetary system.
The ruble is already circulating in the region.
Now, our main task is to expand the Russian banking network to Crimea.

Ukraine cuts water supply to Crimea
Ukraine have closed the sluices of the North Crimean Canal, halting water supply from the Dnieper River to Crimea.  Crimea PM Sergey Aksyonov said Crimea will not be left without water!  There is a backup plan. There are no problems with drinking water. Agricultural producers will be compensated for the losses.

Russia fears Crimea water shortage
April 26, 2014  A dirty war!

A water shortage in Crimea is threatening to become acute as Ukraine has reduced the supply via a key canal.
Crimea harvest of grapes, rice, maize and soya will be ruined if it does not get more water soon.
The North Crimea Canal delivers water to Crimea from the River Dnieper, which accounts for 80% of Crimea water.
The Crimea-Ukraine border is now officially a state border.
Russia will establish permanent checkpoints there, as well as new rules for entering or leaving Crimea.

Ukraine builds dam to cut Crimea water off
May 10, 2014
This alone is a reason for Russia to attack Ukraine nazis.
Wars have often been fought over water rights.
Kiev is building a dam to cut off Crimea water supply
Russia seeks ways to supply fresh water to the Crimea from the Kuban River thru an underground pipeline.  This is costly and will take time.
rt comments are interesting - Does US care about others?  Nope.

EU sanctions Crimea
December 19, 2014
-  Having slapped Crimea and Sevastopol with new investment restrictions, the EU stopped short of introducing new sanctions against Russia’s mainland, with political heavyweights including France and Germany cautiously hinting at possible policy reversal.
Imposing more sanctions on Russia may hurt the European economy even further.  (And the U.S. economy too!)

“The fact that Russia is in a difficult situation from a financial point of view is not good news, not for the Russian citizens, not for Ukraine and not for Europe and the rest of the world.”
German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged members to place more trust in Russian President Vladimir Putin.

YES!  Trust Putin, not Obama!  Sanctioning Crimea is like the boss yelling at the man, who goes home and yells at his wife who yells at the kids who kick the dog.
Crimea is only the poor dog!

Also - it appears the EU fears the bear.  Unlike Obama, they DONT want nuclear war with Russia!

Obama orders ban on Crimea trade
December 20, 2014
-  Barack Obama ordered a ban on the export of goods, technology and services to Crimea.  The executive order also imposes new sanctions on Russian and Ukrainian individuals and companies.  Similar measures agreed by the European Union, Canada announced its own sanction on Crimea.

Obama said the US would never accept Russia's annexation of Crimea in March.
The people of Crimea voted overwhelmingly to join Russia!
In addition to the goods, technology and services ban, US individuals or companies cannot buy any real estate or businesses in Crimea or fund Crimean firms.

Ukraine cuts electricity to Crimea!
December 24, 2014 -
Blackout paralyzes Crimea as Ukraine cuts electricity to peninsula.  Ukraine unilaterally cut electric power supplies to the Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol to zero on all four lines.
Local authorities take measures to generate electricity to provide electric power for at least a half of the peninsula and restore the operation of mobile communication. "Negotiations with Ukraine are underway so that they resume supplies of electricity to the Crimea."

Power cut on the threshold of a regular meeting of the contact group in Minsk to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Obviously, the problem with electricity in the Crimea will not help resolve the situation.  Electricity was cut on the whole Crimean Peninsula on December 24, at 11:20 a.m. Moscow time - in all cities, including Simferopol. All main lines, including special ones, have been disabled. Strategic facilities, including the international airport and the train stations, have been disconnected from electric supplies too.

This aint good!
One of Obama's declarations of WAR on Russia was he would not accept the results of the people's vote in Crimea to join Russia.

Ukraine briefly cuts power to Crimea
December 25, 2014
-  Ukraine briefly severed electricity to the Crimean Peninsula in a pointed reminder of their reliance on Ukrainian energy sources. The electricity shut-off came as Moscow threatened a greater rift with the West if Ukraine joined NATO.  Power was resumed later.

Ukraine is confronting an energy crisis as supplies of coal from Donetsk and Luhansk regions have been disrupted because Kiev is bombing those people.
Rolling blackouts in other Ukrainian regions and Crimea have occurred on several occasions.

Russia prepared raising nuclear readiness over Crimea
March 15, 2015
Sunday -   Russia was ready to bring its nuclear weapons into a state of alert during 2014 tensions over the Crimean Peninsula and the overthrow of Ukraine's president, President Vladimir Putin said in remarks aired on Sunday.

Putin admitted that the forces in unmarked uniforms who took control of Ukrainian military facilities in Crimea were Russian soldiers.
Putin's comments highlight the extent to which alarm spread in Russia in the weeks following Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's ouster in February 2014. After Yanukovych fled Kiev to Russia, separatist sentiment soared in Crimea.

Russian forces took control of Ukrainian military facilities on the peninsula and a referendum on secession was hastily called. The referendum brought overwhelming support for secession. Russia annexed Crimea on March 19, 2014.

In the documentary, Putin says of the nuclear preparedness, "We were ready to do this.  Crimea is our historical territory. Russian people live there. They were in danger. We cannot abandon them."

The comments were reported on the state broadcaster's website after its transmission in the Russian Far East and before it appeared on the air in Moscow.

Putin said his plans for a Crimean operation started after Yanukovych fled, the victim of a coup.  Russian forces helped Yanukovych escape to Russia. Putin never thought about severing Crimea from Ukraine until the coup. Russia's Black Sea Fleet is based in Crimea; it retained the bases after the collapse of the Soviet Union under an agreement with Ukraine.

I have no idea if Putin recorded that, but he probably did - when  unknown.
