6.9 earthquake Japan
February 17, 2015
-  An earthquake measuring at 6.9 magnitude struck around 8 am local time off Honshu island in northern Japan.  The quake was felt in Tokyo.  The earthquake struck in the same region hit by a 9.0 quake in March 2011 which triggered a tsunami that crippled the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and killed more than 18,000 people. Japan is still battling the consequences of the three meltdowns and struggling with the clean-up of the nuclear catastrophe aftermath.

Japan landslide
April 28, 2015
-  Part of Japan's coast just rose 1,000 feet up out of the water.
Land rising out of the sea in Hokkaido, Japan - 50 feet (over 1,000 feet long) overnight.
The new land began rising from the sea April 24, 2015 with just a 1 meter rise (3 feet), then began rising rapidly, the event is still ongoing as of April 26th.
The new land mass has now risen over 50 feet above the water (near 1,000 feet long), and near 10 meters wide (30 feet)!  This is being attributed to crustal movement in the area.

New Japan volcano island
May 17, 2015 -  Nishinoshima
, a brand new island emerging off the coast of Japan offers scientists a rare opportunity to study how life begins to colonise barren land.  An active volcano poked its head above the waves in November 2013 abiyt 620 miles south of Tokyo.
Nishinoshima is currently almost all bare rock, formed from cooling lava.
But it will one day have plant and animal life as nature moves.

Anyone Who can afford to is leaving Japan
Many of the rich upper class left Tokyo, and most if not all of the ambassadors from foreign nations moved out, right after the Fukushima meltdown.
A nuclear expert advised people to leave Japan.

5.6 earthquake rattles buildings in Tokyo
Strong earthquake shook buildings in Tokyo, setting off alarms and temporarily bringing the city’s subway system to halt.  Narita Airport runways were closed briefly.  Reporters said the quake developed as a series of vertical bounces as well as a side-to-side shaking.  (Like a bucking bronco!)

Volcano erupts on remote Japanese island, residents flee by boat

TOKYO, May 29 (Reuters) - A volcano erupted on a remote Japanese island on Friday, blasting black smoke thousands of metres into the sky and forcing residents to flee by boat and an airline to re-route flights.

A pyroclastic flow of super-heated gas and rock rolled down the side of Mount Shindake, on the southern island of Kuchinoerabujima, and into the ocean.

A 72-year-old man suffered minor burns to his face but there were no reports of other injuries among the island's 137 residents.

"It sounded like dynamite had exploded, and the house shook," one resident told TV Asahi.

Others described a smell of sulphur and clouds of smoke that blacked out the sky. Ash blanketed lower slopes and fell like snow on Yakushima, 12 km (7 miles) to the east.

Residents, many elderly and carrying boxes and bags, fled by boat to the closest neighbouring island of Yakushima, an hour away, where they disembarked shortly before sunset. Several struggled to control excited dogs on leads.

"All I could bring were a few emergency goods. It was utter chaos," one man told Fuji TV. "I'm really worried about things back home."

Smoke shot more than 9,000 metres (29,000 feet) into the sky and officials warned of more big eruptions and urged "extreme caution".

All Nippon Airways said it would divert some flights as a precaution but it did not cancel any. Japan Airlines said it did not have any plans to change flights.

Kuchinoerabujima is about 130 km (70 miles) south of Japan's southernmost main island of Kyushu, and 1,000 km (620 miles) southwest of Tokyo.

It was not clear if the eruption would affect the restart of Kyushu Electric Power's Sendai nuclear plant, which on Wednesday cleared the last of the nuclear regulator's safety hurdles, introduced after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster triggered by a March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami. [ID: nL3N0YI1Q4]

The company said the volcano posed no risk to the Sendai plant on Kyushu, and volcanologists agreed.

The island has seen several eruptions, including one in 1933 that killed eight people, but Mount Shindake was dormant for 34 years until last year.

Japan is one of the world's most seismically active countries and there has been an upsurge in volcanic activity in recent weeks, which volcanologists said may be linked to the big 2011 earthquake that set off a tsunami that killed nearly 20,000 people.

In 2014, 63 people were killed when Mount Ontake in central Japan erupted while packed with hikers.

POWERFUL 8.5 QUAKE STRIKES OFF JAPAN
May 30, 2015
-  A powerful and extremely deep earthquake shook most of Japan.
The magnitude-8.5 offshore quake struck off the Ogasawara islands at a depth of 370 miles. The USGS said a depth of 421 miles.

The temblor rattled most of Japan, buildings swayed in Tokyo and disrupted some train services. About 400 north of Tokyo were without power.  Tokyo shopping centre elevators stopped soon after the earthquake struck the area.
Deep offshore earthquakes usually do not cause tsunamis.
