Evolution Pushed in Roman Catholic Bibles for Latin America
4/25/12 We sometimes get so caught up with the ways in which God’s Word is being compromised in North America that we forget about what’s happening in other countries! An AiG supporter sent us a Roman Catholic Bible from Argentina, along with a letter expressing her concerns. The Bible is in Spanish, but this supporter just happens to be a certified Spanish–English translator. She wrote that this particular Bible, released by the Sociedad Bíblica Católica Internacional (SOBICAIN) and revised in 2005, is the “official” Bible used in Latin American countries today.
The number of references in this Bible to evolutionary ideas and the denial of biblical authority in this Bible is staggering. I wanted to make you aware of the compromise that’s going on in the Catholic church in Latin American countries. It’s important to note that these are just some of the areas of compromise in this Bible.
The introduction to Genesis insists, “Genesis means ‘Origin,’ but in the first chapters we should not look for a scientific document about the origins of the universe.” The introduction states the following:
We should not look here for historical or scientific data, since those who composed this chapter wanted to teach very different realities. … It is the Word of God, but let’s not read the text as if it were giving us “the” Christian understanding of the universe.

Catholics, Evangelicals May Coordinate on Religious Freedom Event This Summer
May 24, 2012 The U.S. Catholic Church will hold an event this summer called "Fortnight for Freedom" to bring attention to religious freedom issues. The Christian Post has learned that discussions are underway to include evangelical organizations with these events. Evangelical organizations have expressed solidarity with Catholic leaders who oppose the Obama administration's birth control mandate, which, they argue, is a religious freedom issue.
In separate interviews, Sister Mary Ann Walsh, a spokesperson for the USCCB, and Galen Carey, vice president for government relations at the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), both confirmed that discussions have taken place on how evangelicals might coordinate events with Catholics for "Fortnight for Freedom," but nothing has been finalized.
The Catholic bishops "have invited us to join them," Carey said Tuesday. "There have been discussions, we're not exactly sure what form that might take, but we certainly have expressed our solidarity with Catholics on [the religious freedom] issue."
"Fortnight for Freedom" will take place for two weeks this summer and end on the Fourth of July holiday.
"Culminating on Independence Day, this special period of prayer, study, catechesis, and public action would emphasize both our Christian and American heritage of liberty. Dioceses and parishes around the country could choose a date in that period for special events that would constitute a great national campaign of teaching and witness for religious liberty," a U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) press release explained.

Jun 2012 About a dozen religious leaders gathered with Cardinal Francis George on the steps of St. Hedwig Catholic Church on Sunday evening to pose for a picture that could symbolize the goal they had come to promote: Christian unity.
The clergy and about 150 congregants came to the Polish parish for Chicago's 12th annual ecumenical prayer service for Christian unity. It was organized by Ecumenism Metro Chicago, a coalition of Christian communities, in an effort to deepen relationships among members of varying Christian traditions.
"Jesus said if we are not one, the world will not believe," said George, who has previously talked about the need for the Roman Catholic Church to work with other denominations. "We have an obligation to be a united witness."
Jesus also said, Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
The challenges to unity among Christian faith traditions are their differing perspectives on religious doctrine and discipleship, George said. Questions of sexual morality and social justice also continue to divide Christians, he said.

Reporter leaves Fox News to join Vatican staff
Jun 25, 2012 (CNN) – Correspondent Greg Burke has left Fox News to join the Vatican as a senior adviser of communications to the secretariat of state at the Holy See, the Vatican announced late Sunday.
"This new figure will have the task of dealing with communications issues in the work of the secretariat of state and will oversee relations with the Holy See Press Office and other media institutions of the Holy See," Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said in a statement.
Burke has been based in Rome as a journalist for more than two decades, first as a correspondent for the National Catholic Register, then as a stringer and correspondent for Time magazine before he moved to Fox News in 2001.
"While I don’t think I'll have power, I think I'll be at the table with people who do," Burke said from Rome on Monday.
Burke's office will not be in the press office at the Holy See. He will be based on the third floor of the Apostolic Palace just below Secretariat of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Italian cleric who overseas the day-to-day operation of the Vatican.
Burke equated the newly created job to being the director of communications at the White House, noting he won't be out front delivering the message for the church. "This is more the strategy, the shape-the-message, formulate-the-message, and then try to figure out how best to transmit it."

The Vatican has registered one of its worst budget deficits in years, plunging back into the red with a €15 million ($19 million) deficit in 2011 after a brief respite of profit.
The Vatican on Thursday blamed the poor outcome on high personnel and communications costs and adverse market conditions, particularly for its real estate holdings.
Not even a €50 million gift to the pope from the Vatican bank and increased donations from dioceses and religious orders could offset the expenses and poor investment returns, the Vatican said in its annual financial report.
The Vatican said it ran a €14.9 million deficit in 2011 after posting a surplus of €9.85 million in 2010. The 2010 surplus, however, was something of an anomaly. In 2009 the Vatican ran a deficit of €4.01 million, in 2008 the deficit was €0.9 million and in 2007 it was nearly €9.1 million.

Pope’s visit to Lebanon is risky, priest warns
Aug 24, 2012 FATHER Paolo Dall’Oglio, a Jesuit priest who was recently forced to leave Syria, has warned that Pope Benedict XVI ‘s safety could be at risk during a planned visit to Lebanon next month.
The pope is due to visit Lebanon from September 14-16 to bring a message of peace and call for greater respect for religious pluralism.
Even though his special protective car – the “popemobile” – has been sent to Beirut, questions are swirling about the safety of a trip to a country linked to the raging conflict in Syria.
The pope “must ask for help from a secret service that can guarantee his security. Because the Lebanese services are not sufficient in this situation,” Dall’Oglio warned.
Lebanon’s Sunni communities largely oppose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, while its Alawites, who belong to the same minority as the Syrian leader, are pro-Damascus. Deadly clashes between the two groups are on the rise.

Vatican Suggests One All-Powerful Bank Run by One All-Powerful Global Entity
November 04, 2011 With increasing fear among ordinary people about financial elites and their manipulation of money markets, the Vatican has decided to make matters worse by adding its own bizarre twist to the problem: It has proposed a supranational authority to manage a new global bank. Not only would financial power rest in the hands of a world body like the UN, but the Vatican would like all countries to cede some of their sovereign powers to it.
One of the great ironies of the Vatican concept of a super authority is that it meets the very criteria the Bible warns against in the Book of Revelation, such as the emergence of a world financial system.
None of this troubles the evil pope, however, perhaps because his Vatican Bank does business worldwide. It is known to have investments scattered across the globe, some of which are hidden behind multilayered shell companies. The Vatican Bank’s ability to move large sums of money in and out of Vatican City and between private banks is legendary. In 2010, it was caught with its hands in the criminal cookie jar when Italy’s economic intelligence investigators discovered it was secretly moving tens of millions of euros into a JPMorgan account in Frankfurt, and between private banks elsewhere.
The best-known example of criminality by the Vatican Bank, formally called the Institute for Religious Works (Istituto per le Opere di Religione), was its 1982 role in the $3.2 billion collapse of Banco Ambrosiano, a private bank in which it held the major stake. Banco Ambrosiano chairman Roberto Calvi was later found hanged under Blackfriars Bridge in London. Cardinal Paul Marcinkus, a former American football player who was the Vatican’s man at Banco Ambrosiano, was never prosecuted because the Vatican claimed he had diplomatic immunity. Before his 2006 death in Arizona, Marcinkus refused to explain how Banco Ambrosiano became a laundering house for international crime syndicates.
Pope John Paul I may have been alerted to some of Banco Ambrosiano’s activities as early as 1978, but he died mysteriously 33 days after being elected pope. While the Vatican attributed his death to a heart attack, some thought otherwise, claiming he had posed a major threat to powerful interests in the Vatican and outside it because he had threatened to investigate the Vatican Bank and its dealings with Banco Ambrosiano.
Perhaps it is understandable that the Vatican, which is a powerful world body, is advocating the creation of a super committee to control global finance. Presumably the pope’s bankers, who pretend their focus is on faith and morals, would wish to be represented on the board of such a new world bank and the supranational authority overseeing it.
The Vatican’s financial proposals came in the form of a document issued by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. It condemned the fall of Lehman Bros. that preceded the recent financial collapse and said the decision to let Lehman Bros. fail was the result of “a liberalist approach, unsympathetic toward public intervention in the markets.” The council also called for a community of nations to meet the growth of globalization with “one public authority having universal jurisdiction.” Its creation would not happen without “anguish and suffering,” the council warned.
The pope’s financial mandarins were careful not to spell out in detail how each country would be required to transfer some of its powers to the world authority or which powers they had in mind. Nevertheless, they took a sideswipe at the International Monetary Fund, implying it could no longer fulfill the role of a global financial guide.
It is unlikely the Vatican Bank will become any more transparent about its inner workings than it has been to date. After all, it still refuses to open its files to those who would like to know what it did with the hundreds of millions of gold coins secretly and illegally moved into its vaults by the Croatian State Treasury at the end of World War II.

Supreme Court Justices attend annual Red Mass
9/30/12 WASHINGTON — An American archbishop has reminded a congregation that included six Supreme Court justices Sunday to be open to the spirit of God, beg for his blessings and "strive to be instruments of a new evangelization."
The Archdiocese of Washington says Justices John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Elena Kagan, Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Stephen Breyer were at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle for Red Mass, celebrated the Sunday before the Supreme Court begins its new term.
The Most Rev. Timothy Broglio, archbishop for the military services, said the Mass was also "a moment to pause and pray for those who serve our country and foster justice for all."
The John Carroll Society, a group of Roman Catholic Washington professionals, has organized the Red Mass at the cathedral since 1953.

Gabriele, a trusted servant who served the pope meals, helped him dress and rode in the popemobile, has told the court he does not consider himself guilty of a crime.
He told investigators before the trial began that he leaked the documents because he saw "evil and corruption everywhere in the Church" and that information was being hidden from the pope.
Earlier this week Gabriele accused the Holy See's police of mistreating him while in custody. Members of the force in turn depicted the butler as a man obsessed with the occult, Masonic lodges and secret services.
