Throughout history we have not seen animals dying in these kinds of numbers all around the world. But the earth and the seas are so polluted now from man made chemicals and oil spills, the animals just don't stand a chance! But this was to be expected, as God has already warned us through Bible prophecy that this world is heading for complete ruin. Friends, it's time to turn to Jesus Christ. He is our ONLY hope for the future.

Monsanto massacres monarchs
February 10, 2015
-  970 million butterflies killed since 1990
The beautiful monarch butterfly, which is also a major pollinator, is being threatened by herbicides that eradicate milkweed, its primary food source. Now, a desperate rejuvenation program is under way to save the species from possible extinction.

US Fish and Wildlife Service summed up the plight of the monarch butterfly: Since 1990, about 970 million of the butterflies - 90% of the total population – have vanished across the United States.
Monsanto’s Roundup Ready herbicide wreaks havoc. Sold to farmers and homeowners as an effective method for eliminating milkweed plants, Roundup Ready, introduced in the 1970s, is widely blamed for decimating the monarch butterflies’ only source of food in the Midwest.

Killer Monsanto is in Ukraine - Ukraine has a law - NO GMO
presto - needs new govt who will allow GMO.

Almost 200 whales stranded on New Zealand beach

Wellington (AFP) - Almost 200 pilot whales stranded themselves Friday on a New Zealand beach renowned as a deathtrap for the marine mammals, conservation officials said.

At least 24 whales from the pod of 198 that beached themselves at Farewell Spit had died and rescue workers were trying to refloat the survivors, the Department of Conservation (DOC) said.

"Re-floating stranded whales is a difficult and potentially dangerous job... community group Project Jonah has 140 volunteers in the Golden Bay area who are trained to do this and we’re working alongside them," DOC spokesman Andrew Lamason said.

He said if the re-float attempt late Friday failed then the rescuers would have to wait 24 hours for another high tide before trying again.

Farewell Spit beach, at the northern tip of the South Island, has been the scene of many mass pilot whale strandings over the years.

There have been at least eight in the past decade, including two within the space of a week in January last year, although the latest stranding is one of the largest.

Pilot whales grow up to six metres (20 feet) long and are the most common species of whale in New Zealand waters.

Scientists are unclear why they strand themselves in large groups, with some speculating healthy whales beach themselves while trying to help sick or disorientated family members that are stranded.

Others believe the topography of certain places like Farewell Spit somehow scrambles the whales' sonar navigation, causing them to beach.

Once stranded, the whales are vulnerable to dehydration and sunburn until rescuers can use the high tide to move their massive weight back into deeper water.

Once refloated, the whales often simply swim back ashore and have to be euthanised.

Mass Beaching of Whales Triggers 'Unscientific' Earthquake Fears in Japan
4/11/15

The mass beaching of more than 150 melon-headed whales on Japan's shores has triggered fear of a repeat devastating earthquake. Despite a lack of scientific evidence linking the two events, a burst of online commentators have pointed to the appearance of around 50 melon-headed whales on Japan's beaches six days before the monster quake, which released a towering tsunami and triggered a nuclear disaster.

More than 130 dolphins beach in Japan
4/11/15

More than 130 melon-headed whales, a MEMBER of the dolphin family usually found in the deep ocean, beached in Japan on Friday, sparking frantic efforts by locals and coastguards to save them.

Rescuers were battling to stop the creatures’ skin from drying out as they lay on a beach about 100 kilometres (60 miles) northeast of Tokyo, while some were being carried in slings back towards the ocean.

Television footage showed several animals from the large pod had been badly cut, with many having deep gashes on their skin.

An AFP journalist at the scene said that despite efforts to get the dolphins into the water, some were being pushed back onto the beach by the tide soon after they had been released.

A NUMBER of the creatures had died, he said, and were being buried.

“We see one or two whales washing ashore a year, but this may be the first time to find over 100 of them on a beach,” a coastguard official told AFP.

The pod was stretched out along a roughly 10-kilometre-long of beach in Hokota, Ibaraki, where they had been found by locals early Friday morning.

“They are alive. I feel sorry for them,” a man told public broadcaster NHK, as others were seen ferrying buckets of seawater to the stranded animals and pouring it over them.

Several animals could be seen writhing in a futile effort to move themselves on the sand, although as the morning progressed they were clearly becoming weaker.

Melon-headed whales, also known as electra dolphins, are relatively common in Japanese waters and can grow to be two- to three- meters (six- to nine-feet) long.

Despite international opprobrium, Japan hunts minke and pilot whales off its own coast, and has for many years also pursued the mammals in the Antarctic Ocean using a scientific exemption to the international moratorium on whaling.

It has never made any secret of the fact that meat from the animals is also consumed.

However, a UN court ruled last year that its hunt was a commercial ACTIVITY masquerading as research, and ordered it be halted.

Tokyo, which insists whaling is a tradition and labels environmental campaigners as “cultural imperialists”, has vowed to restart a redesigned southern ocean whaling PROGRAM.

Japan also defies international opinion with the slaughter of hundreds of dolphins in a bay near the southern whaling town of Taiji.

Dead Penguins washing up on same Uraguayen beaches were 200 tons of dead fish washed up earlier in the year
6/13/15

Translated from Spanish.
Dozens of dead penguins have appeared in the last three days on the shores of the Uruguayan departments of Rocha and Maldonado, east of the country, due to migration flows?
Although the phenomenon is maintained between the parameters of the "usual", explained the coordinator of Dinara, Graciela Fabiano, will be closely following the issue and be in constant contact with other agencies.
In the case of the National Directorate of Environment (DINAMA) and the specialized units in the subject at the University of the Republic (Udelar).
Also, Fabiano said that the number of dead birds likely to increase in the coming days due to weather conditions such as wind gusts.
He denied that pollution factors are blame at the moment even so, more than 200 tons of dead fish washed up in the same area 4 months ago, see here

Toxic Algae Blooming in Pacific from California to Alaska Is Affecting Your Seafood
8/5/15

A vast bloom of toxic algae off the West Coast is denser, more widespread and deeper than scientists feared even weeks ago, according to surveyors aboard a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research vessel.

This coastal ribbon of microscopic algae, up to 40 miles wide and 650 feet deep in places, is flourishing amid unusually warm Pacific Ocean temperatures. It now stretches from at least California to Alaska and has shut down lucrative fisheries. Shellfish managers on Tuesday doubled the area off Washington’s coast that is closed to Dungeness crab fishing, after finding elevated levels of marine toxins in tested crab meat.

So-called “red tides” are cyclical and have happened many times before, but ocean researchers say this one is much larger and persisting much longer, with higher levels of neurotoxins bringing severe consequences for the Pacific seafood industry, coastal tourism and marine ecosystems.

Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, said the area now closed to crab fishing includes more than half the state’s 157-mile-long coast, and likely will bring a premature end to this year’s coastal crab season.

“We think it’s just sitting and lingering out there,” said Anthony Odell, a University of Washington research analyst who is part of a NOAA-led team surveying the harmful algae bloom, which was first detected in May. “It’s farther offshore, but it’s still there.”

The survey data should provide a clearer picture of what is causing the bloom which is brownish in color, unlike the blue and green algae found in polluted freshwater lakes. Marine detectives already have a suspect: a large patch of water running as much as 3 degrees centigrade warmer than normal in the northeast Pacific Ocean, nicknamed “the blob.”

“The question on everyone’s mind is whether this is related to global climate change. The simple answer is that it could be, but at this point it’s hard to separate the variations in these cycles,” said Donald Boesch, professor of marine science at the University of Maryland who is not involved in the survey. “Maybe the cycles are more extreme in the changing climate.”

“There’s no question that we’re seeing more algal blooms more often, in more places, when they do occur, they’re lasting longer and often over greater geographical areas. We’re seeing more events than documented decades ago,” said Pat Glibert, professor at Horn Point Laboratory, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.

Odell recently completed the first leg of the survey, mostly in California waters. On Wednesday, researchers plan to continue monitoring the sea between Newport, Oregon, and Seattle. The vessel will then go to Vancouver Island, wrapping up in early September. Another research ship is taking samples off Alaska.

The brownish bloom was particularly thick off the coast of Santa Barbara, California, and Odell said it was unusually dominated by one type of algae called Pseudo-nitzschia, which can produce the neurotoxin domoic acid.

“It’s an indication of an imbalance,” said Vera Trainer, a research oceanographer with the Northwest Fisheries Science Center in Seattle. “Too much of any one thing is not healthy for anybody to eat.”

Trainer said this bloom is the worst she’s seen in 20 years of studying them. Harmful algal blooms have usually been limited to one area of the ocean or another, and have disappeared after a few weeks. This one has grown for months, waxing and waning but never going away.

“It’s been incredibly thick, almost all the same organism. Looks like a layer of hay,” said Raphael Kudela, a professor of ocean sciences at University of California, Santa Cruz.

The current bloom also involves some of the highest concentrations of domoic acid yet observed in Monterey Bay and other areas of the West Coast.

“It’s really working its way into the food web and we’re definitely seeing the impacts of that,” Kudela said, noting that sea lions are getting sick and pelicans are being exposed. And now that the Pacific is experiencing its periodic ocean warming known as El Nino, it may come back even stronger next year, he said.

Domoic acid is harmful to people, fish and marine life. It accumulates in anchovies, sardines and other small fish as well as shellfish that eat the algae. Marine mammals and fish-eating birds in turn can get sick from eating the contaminated fish. In people, it can trigger amnesic shellfish poisoning, which can cause permanent loss of short-term memory in severe cases.

State health officials stress that seafood bought in stores is still safe to eat because it is regularly tested. While there have been no reports of human illnesses linked to this year’s bloom, authorities aren’t taking chances in fisheries with dangerous toxin levels.

California public health officials have warned against eating recreationally harvested mussels and claims, or any anchovy, sardines or crabs caught in waters off Monterey, Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara counties. Other shellfish harvests are shut down along Oregon’s coast.

The most recent samples showed the highest-ever recorded concentrations of domoic acid in the internal organs of Dungeness crab, Ayres said.

“This is really unprecedented territory for us,” said Ayres.
