TAIWAN test-fires 17 missiles, China president in U.S.A.
January 18, 2011
Taiwan test-fired 19 missiles following China's successful trial of a new stealth aircraft.
This was made unusually public.  Taiwan's president was on hand as 6 of the missiles missed their targets, raising questions rather than reassuring the public about the self-ruled island's readiness to defend itself against an attack from the mainland.

President Ma Ying-jeou's attendance at the drills at a base in Taiwan's south was ostensibly to underscore his commitment to an effective Taiwanese deterrent, following criticism that the island's defense has been undermined by his policy of reconciling with the mainland.
However, one analyst suggested the public display was aimed at persuading Washington to sell more advanced military jets to Taiwan, whose U.S.-equipped air force long maintained an advantage over China's, but has recently been eclipsed.

Mainland China and Taiwan split amid civil war in 1949, but Beijing still claims the island as its territory and has reserved the right to invade the democratic island of 23 million people if it moves to make its de facto independence permanent, something Ma opposes.
The missile tests were the first held in full view of the press for almost a decade.

China and Taiwan in first government talks
Feb 11, 2014
China and Taiwan have begun the highest-level talks since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949.
Wang Yu-chi and Zhang Zhijun, the top cross-strait officials from each side, are both attending talks in Nanjing.
China regards Taiwan as part of its territory.
For us to simply sit at the same table, sit down to discuss issues, is already not an easy thing.

Taiwan rejects China unification
September 28, 2014
Chinese President Xi Jinping made Taiwan a one country, two systems Hong Kong-style proposal.  Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou rejected it.
President Ma said: "Taiwan is the only place in China where we are able to practice democracy.
We are worried about the developments in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is a global financial center.
China's government considers Taiwan as a renegade province.

Taiwan plane engines lost power
February 6, 2015  -  15 survived, 35 died
.  Taiwan said the first problem with one of the plane's engines was detected 37 seconds into the flight.  Black box data from TransAsia GE235 revealed that power was cut to both engines.  The engines failed to produce enough thrust for two minutes after take-off.
Data suggest that the flight crew tried to stop and restart one of the engines, without success.

The plane ran into trouble 37 seconds after taking off.
The pilot announced a "flame-out", which can occur when the fuel supply to the engine is interrupted or when there is faulty combustion.  However, there was no flame-out, and the right engine had actually shifted into idle mode without the oil pressure having changed.
The plane flashed a flame-out signal for one of the two engines when the plane climbed to an altitude of 1,200ft, triggering a warning.

Shocked    Taiwan AirAsia plane pilots may have turned off wrong engine
One of the engines stopped 37 seconds after take-off and the
pilots could have switched off the remaining one in an attempt to restart both.

The flight crew stepped on the accelerator of engine 2 [righthand side] still operating, but neither engine produced power.  The flight recorders indicate the plane warned 5 times of stalling before it crashed.
The right engine appears to have failed to produce enough thrust.

Taiwan TransAsia crash
February 8, 2015
-  TransAsia has had about 100 flights cancelled since Taipei crash.
Officials are probing why both of the plane's engines were off at the time.
The pilots, who were both killed, may have accidentally shut one engine off after the other lost power.
CAA ordered retraining for all TransAsia pilots flying its ATR fleet and the airline grounded several dozen aircraft.  The CAA also ordered fuel system and engine checks on the remaining planes.

The plane's right engine triggered an alarm 37 seconds after taking off, data showed that the engine had been moved into idle mode, the pilots shut down the left engine as well, leaving the plane without any power at low altitude. The pilots attempted to restart the engines, but the plane crashed 72 seconds later.
It is unclear why the left engine had been turned off, officials have told the media, especially as the plane, an ATR 72-600, is designed to fly with just one functioning engine.

Taiwan TransAsia pilot clutching joystick
The pilot of the crashed TransAsia plane was still clutching the joystick when his body was found in the cockpit, after he battled to avoid populated areas.  Liao has been hailed as a hero for apparently making a last-ditch attempt to steer the plane away from built-up areas, avoiding more deaths and damage.  His body was found in the cockpit still holding the joystick with both hands, and with his legs badly fractured.  He struggled to control planes direction and reduce casualties.

‘Love Not Limited?': Three Thailand Men ‘Marry’ Each Other, Photos Go Viral

2/26/15

Photos of three Thailand men who recently ‘married’ each other have gone viral, garnering societal support for the concept of same-sex “throuples” worldwide, but also generating remarks from Christians about the confirmation of the slippery slope that has long been predicted.

The men, who have only been identified as Joke, Belle and Art Thani, reportedly participated in a traditional water-pouring ceremony on Feb. 15 and had photographs taken of their union. However, the act was more of a symbolic gesture as neither homosexuality or polygamy are legal in Thailand.

“Love occurs unconditionally and is not limited to only two people,” Art wrote on Facebook. “Love brings peace to the world.”

The threesome has also been featured on Thailand television, and have posted affectionate photos online which include captions such as, “The three of us will forever hold hands and walk together.”

One Facebook post received over 50,000 likes regarding the three-way relationship.

As previously reported, last May, three women in Massachusetts exchanged vows as they claimed to be the world’s first lesbian “throuple.” Brynn, Doll, and Kitten stated that they view their relationship as a “romantic committee,” where the household responsibilities are allocated between the three of them, and wanted to each get pregnant using anonymous sperm donors.

“I had always dated girls, who—although they had boyfriends or girlfriends—were also allowed to date me,” Brynn told reporters. “I never thought that much about it and I had never really come out as poly to my friends and family. To me, it was just how I was.”

But after this month’s report out of Thailand, some Christians are noting the inevitable slippery slope that they have stated would result if society deviated from God’s creation order.

“The events in Thailand simply confirm what we’ve been saying all this time: If marriage is no longer the union of one man and one woman, then it can be anything: Two men, two women, three men, three women, or an almost infinite number of other possibilities
,” Dr. Michael Brown wrote for Charisma News.

He noted that the situation demonstrates how mankind has made up its own rules along the way in an attempt to legitimize and justify what a particular person wants. Since homosexuals have stated that marriage should be defined as the union of two people who have feelings for each other, regardless of gender, where does the rule about two people come from?

“If a gay activist says, ‘But marriage is the loving, long-term commitment of two people,’ the answer is simple: ‘Says who? That’s just your new definition. Where did you get the idea it was two people if not from its historic, natural meaning?'” Brown explained. “And so, if I’m ‘bigoted’ because I don’t recognize same-sex ‘marriage,’ then gay activists (and their allies) are just as ‘bigoted’ if they don’t recognize three men (or women) ‘marrying.’

He said that last year, he was asked to participated in a debate surrounding whether consensual adult incest should be legalized. Brown recalled that he was the only one on the panel that said that such relationships are never okay in the eyes of God.

“All the other participants, including a professor and a psychoanalyst, advocated for removing the laws against consensual adult incest,” he stated. “Are you surprised? But what’s the problem? Love is love [according to society], right? As long it’s consensual, who can say no to love?”

Brown stated that these developments are demonstrating the domino effect that results when the world rebels against God and His Master design for mankind.

“Those who have taken down the fence of marriage as God intended it have opened up a Pandora’s Box of possibilities,” he said, “none of them good.”

A large and damaging M6.7 earthquake struck Taiwan (South of Japan).

Just a few hours ago, South Japan was struck by a large volcanic blast at Sakurajima Volcano (after months of silence).  No doubt the volcanic eruption, and this large earthquake in Taiwan are related.

It's also come to a point now where all of these 6.0+ earthquakes are not only common now, but they are quietly going under the radar like it's the new norm and no big deal.

Taiwan is on the verge of becoming the first Asian country with marriage equality

More than 4 billion people live in Asia. But not one of them lives in a country where people can get married regardless of their sexual orientation. LGBT rights supporters have long looked to liberal Taiwan to change that, and numerous recent developments signal that the country may step up.

On Saturday, more than 80,000 people took to the streets of Taiwan's capital, Taipei, as part of the city's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride parade, according to numbers provided by organizers. Attendees described the event as charged with an unprecedented atmosphere of hope.

In October, lawmakers from Taiwan's new ruling party, the Democratic Progressive Party, introduced a bill that would eliminate gender from the national constitution's definition of marriage, opening it to any two people. Taiwan's new president, Tsai Ing-wen, has vocally supported marriage equality in the past, and recent polls show that almost three-quarters of the Taiwanese people favor marriage equality.

The turning point, however, may have come by way of tragedy. On Oct. 16, a French professor who had lived in Taiwan for decades fell 10 stories to his death in what his friends said was probably a suicide. They said Jacques Picoux, who was 67, had fallen into a deep depression after cancer took the life of his partner of many years. Because of Taiwan's current laws, Picoux was not able to take part in crucial medical decisions during his partner's final moments and afterward could not legally claim the property the two had shared.

Picoux's death seems to have spurred DPP lawmakers to prioritize the new bill on marriage equality. According to political observers, the bill is expected to pass.

“We actually can see that there are about 66 legislators who will probably vote yes on marriage equality,” Pride Watch activist Cindy Su told London's the Guardian. “That’s a majority of 58.4 percent, the first time in Taiwanese history that we have more than half.”

[Here are the 10 countries where homosexuality may be punished by death]

The DPP came to power after decades ruled by the Kuomintang, which had opposed marriage-equality legislation. The DPP platform is driven by a desire for Taiwan to become more autonomous from China, which claims the island as its own. But the party also represents a younger, more liberal Taiwanese voter. Of marriage equality, party leader and now-president Tsai said, “Every person should be able to look for love freely and freely seek their own happiness.”

If Taiwan legalizes same-sex marriage, it will send a strong message across the region. Homosexuality is taboo in many East Asian countries, and it remains illegal in Malaysia, as well as across much of South Asia.

Yu Mei-nu, who drafted the legislation for the DPP, said the bill could become law by early next year. On the day after the publication of Yu's draft, Picoux's and his partner's ashes were scattered into the sea.
