ARCTIC CIRCLE
Norway 6.2 Earth Quake - RARE
March 24, 2012
An 6.2 earthquake violently shakes sea-floor of Norwegian Sea at a depth of 8.8 km (5.5 miles).
The epicenter of the Arctic earthquake was 1078 km (670 miles) NW (307°) from Murmansk, Russia and 1468 km (912 miles) NE (36°) from Reykjavik, Iceland.
This earthquake was very shallow and more Arctic earthquakes of this nature can be expected as the planet’s
magnetic field weakens further and the migration of the North Pole continues its race towards Siberia

Iceberg crashes into island, Splits in 2
September 12,  2010
The largest Arctic iceberg in nearly half a century has split into two pieces after crashing into a rocky island west of Greenland.  The biggest ice chunk stretches over an area of nearly 60 square miles.  The iceberg broke off Greenland's Petermann Glacier in 2010 August.   It was the largest such iceberg since 1962, with a surface area of 100 square miles and a thickness of about half the height of the Empire State Building.  It floated down the Nares Strait between Greenland and Canada.

ARCTIC CIRCLE
Major earthquakes strike near north and south poles
August 30, 2012  - A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake
erupted in the Jan Mayen Island region of the Arctic Circle, north of Iceland. The earthquake had a depth of 9.9 km (6.2 miles) and was followed by a 5.2 magnitude aftershock. Seismic turbulence has been increasing in the Arctic Circle in the month of August, as seen from the map above. On August 14, a – 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck in the Sea of Okhotsk near NE Russia. Today’s 6.8 magnitude Arctic earthquake was preceded by double moderate tremors along the Western Indian-Antarctica Ridge in the 5.4 and 5.0 range. The seismic dynamism that has the planet reeling, from pole to pole, increases the potential for major seismic disturbances along the Nazca plate of South America, the Cocos plate, along Central America; and, or the SW region of the U.S. near the Gulf of California, where the Pacific and North American plate are experiencing increased agitation. –The Extinction Protocol

Record melt of Arctic sea ice: “It’s hard even for people like me to believe, to see that climate change is actually doing what our worst fears dictated,” said Jennifer A. Francis, a Rutgers University scientist who studies the effect of sea ice on weather patterns. Scientific forecasts based on computer modeling have long suggested that a time will come when the Arctic will be completely free of ice in the summer, perhaps by the middle of the century. This year’s prodigious melting is lending credibility to more pessimistic analyses that it may come much sooner, perhaps by the end of the decade. “It’s an example of how uncertainty is not our friend when it comes to climate-change risk,” said Michael E. Mann, a climate scientist at Pennsylvania State University. “In this case, the models were almost certainly too conservative in the changes they were projecting, probably because of important missing physics.” –Anchorage Daily News

Greenland Sea
6.6-magnitude quake hits off Jan Mayen island in Norwegian Arctic
August 30, 2012  OSLO
- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 struck off Jan Mayen island in Arctic waters between Greenland and Norway, geological monitoring services said. No damage or injuries were reported.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre and the U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck at 1343 GMT (9:43 a.m. EDT), followed by a 5.2-magnitude temblor eight minutes later.
The USGC said the stronger quake hit at a depth of 5.3 miles (8.6 kilometres), 58 miles (93 kilometres) northwest of Jan Mayen, a Norwegian island with a research station but no permanent population.

The quake could be felt on the island, but didn't cause any damage or injuries, said Erik Persheim, an electronics engineer at the research station.
"We watched the mountain as the loose stones and shale came sliding down," Persheim told The Associated Press. "It didn't seem very big and I don't think much of anything broke, but we'll have to have a thorough inspection."
He said there are currently 44 people on island involved in various research and maintenance work. Normally, the station houses about 18 engineers and other personnel.

Norwegian seismologist Tormod Kvaerna said Jan Mayen, about 370 miles (600 kilometres) east of Greenland, lies near a fault line and is often exposed to earthquakes though he couldn't remember any previous temblors there of that size.
"This is very big," he said, adding that it probably wasn't big enough to trigger a tsunami.
In 2008, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake off the Svalbard islands was billed as the most powerful earthquake on record in Norway.
It was unclear whether the epicenter quake was inside Norwegian territorial waters.

Now a 7.9 quake Philippines.  Thats major, tho not unusual for there.

Unusual Summer Storm Blasts the Arctic
August 2012  A rare summer storm blasted the Arctic this week, beginning off the coast of Alaska, and moving over much of the Arctic Sea for several days before dissipating.
Although the storm itself was uncommon — NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., estimates that there have only been about eight similarly strong August storms in the last 34 years — the real news behind the meteorological event is the stunning Aug. 6 photo taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite. The cyclone is spinning toward the North Pole, with Greenland visible in the bottom-left of the image. Scientists are left speculating what the impact of such a storm could be.

From NASA:
Quote:
Arctic storms such as this one can have a large impact on the sea ice, causing it to melt rapidly through many mechanisms, such as tearing off large swaths of ice and pushing them to warmer sites, churning the ice and making it slushier, or lifting warmer waters from the depths of the Arctic Ocean.

“It seems that this storm has detached a large chunk of ice from the main sea ice pack. This could lead to a more serious decay of the summertime ice cover than would have been the case otherwise, even perhaps leading to a new Arctic sea ice minimum,” said Claire Parkinson, a climate scientist with NASA Goddard. “Decades ago, a storm of the same magnitude would have been less likely to have as large an impact on the sea ice, because at that time the ice cover was thicker and more expansive.”

Greenland underground hot spot

-  Almost half of central-northern Greenland’s ice-covered area is melting from below. The anomaly is caused by a hot spot in the Earth’s core, or mantle, which is also responsible for triggering volcanic activity in Iceland.

Very Happy  Mount Dutch supervolcano
May 23, 2016
 -  Supervolcano discovered at the North Pole named Mount Dutch by Michael Janitch.
An earthquake swarm near the North pole the past few days.  I found an UNNAMED supervolcano at the Northernmost portion of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, at the tip of the North Pole, thus it is now to be called Mount Dutch.

The supervolcano is at the far North Tip of the Mid-Atlantic ridge.
It is not just a volcanic field like the professionals have reported.

The caldera measures 110km / 68 miles long, and 48km / 30 miles wide.  This supervolcano is larger than Toba Supervolcano in Indonesia, and greater than the overall size  of Yellowstone in Wyoming.  Yellowstone and Toba Supervolcanoes are approximately 60 miles long and 25 miles wide.

June 26, 2016
-  Hekla volcano could erupt.  Nicknamed the 'Gateway to Hell', the Hekla volcano is located in the south and has been quiet for 16 years. New data has revealed it is building up magma with its internal pressure currently higher than before its last two previous eruptions.
