Michele and Travis questions, RR
http://raptorresource.blogspot.co...avis-and-peregrine-questions.html

My notes
March 31, 2013  Easter Sunday  I began this blog.  No egg laid yet

Both male and female came to the box before noon
I saw Michele lay down facing right, then left, then front - as if trying to find a favorite place to lay
She kind of swims around in the gravel
3.06 pm  cheep cheep!  She's back  Smile
Quick snow shower
4.00pm - 5.00pm  another falcon around, male declaring his territory thru incessant peeping
6.21 pm  mating - she perched on extension and he came from behind and - she went into box
Mating end of video, very quick.  She sits out on perch, bows, he flies in and - plants egg seeds

Raptor Resource notes
RRP help repopulate them after DDT, helping re-introduce falcons to the bluffs
The Raptor Resource Project is partnering with the Mississippi Valley Conservancy to preserve bluffland for peregrines, eagles and other wildlife species.

Peregrine falcons are reclaiming their historic nest sites on the bluffs of the Mississippi River near LaCrescent in SE Minnesota
I have driven that hiway and am getting tears in my eyes from memories of long ago
http://www.wisconsinpublicservice.com/environment/falcon/faq.aspx
http://www.raptorresource.org/pdf/2000summary.pdf

The Peregrine (wandering) falcon is a sleek, crow-sized bird of prey.
It grows between 15 and 21 inches long with a wingspan of up to 40 inches.
Males are about a third smaller than females.
Fluffy white as eyasses (chicks), their down is replaced by brown feathers in 3 to 5 weeks.
The Peregrine is one of 6 falcons found in the United States.
The others are Gyrfalcon, Prairie Falcon, Merlin, American Kestrel, and the Aplomado Falcon.

The Peregrine is the fastest animal in the world, diving at speeds that can reach over 200 miles per hour.
The falcon catches other birds in flight by diving on them from above.
As she begins her stoop, she rolls, cups her wings around her body, and tucks in her feet.

GSBDweller: Box is on our family property. Blessed to be linked with RRP efforts

In 2012 there were 4 eggs laid, 1 didnt hatch, 1 chick disappeared.

y 10:54am CDT,This is what is written below cam,Missing falcon
One of the falcons is missing from the box. We do not know what happened, since the camera was offline at the time. No one was out at or cleaning the camera when the young falcon disappeared. It is possible that one of the parents accidentally knocked the young falcon out - we have seen this happen before. It is also possible that the young falcon was predated by another bird.

2012 season
Michele laid 4 eggs.  One was not viable, for whatever reason.  3 hatched.
June 2, 2012  One of the baby falcons is missing from the box in the afternoon.
RRP does not know what happened, since the camera was offline at the time.
It is possible that one of the parents accidentally knocked the young falcon out.
It is also possible that the young falcon was predated by another bird.
The missing eyass is Cassie. The remaining two are named Christine & Maggie.
This nest box is located on a cliff in MN. This bluff preserved by MN Land Trust.
The female is Michelle (P/87), a 2005 hatch from Maassen's bluff. Travis is the male (06/N) from Lee's Bluff, Lynxville, WI, another cliff-born falcon.

    --------  personal ---------

Before dawn today g8 and perchporch are stalking me.  I emailed GSB they are stalking me.
GSB asked them if they'd seen the eggs and both said no.  Yet they kept saying I am a liar.  Ustream needs to act on these 2 stalkers.

The same 2 Satanists who plagued me at the owl cam have stalked me here on the falcon cam and another one - and GSB deleted my comment leaving theirs on the blog.
These evil liars and trouble makers are gr8lakes (gr8satan) and perchporch.
I contacted my friend who works with the FBI internet crime divn.

Evidently the bluff falcon chat has some trolls.  Overnite regulars - insiders - were talking about it with GSB.
Some on this cam want me banned.  2 stalked me here from another cam with people who bully outsiders not in their clique.
Some bluff chat regulars - insiders - have made it a point to post mean things
I have reported it.  Bird cams really dont welcome newbies.  They are a clique.
Just know if you chat on live cams, some people are nice and some are very mean - and some are crazy.

Raptor Resource Project Great Spirit Bluff Updates

June 17, 2013
Bob made a decision today to intervene in the situation at Great Spirit Bluff, where four young falcons fell from the front perch. Intervention is always a tough call. He decided to intervene because:

We have never seen or heard of a situation where three (eventually four) falcons that were 30 days of age or a little younger jumped out of the nest box absent any visible stimuli such as a threat approaching them. Bob said that we might expect to see 'branching' at 35 to 37+ days of age, but 30 days was too young. Something was wrong. His exact quote: "In all of my years of working with peregrine falcons I have never seen young falcons jump or slip off to their death. I have seen falcons nest on 1,000 foot cliffs on a ledge the size of a dinner plate and they always wait until they are feathered enough to fly. I am starting to wonder if we have a unusual hatch of parasites driving the falcons crazy. The only way a young falcon at this age could survive the fall is if by some chance it was slowed down hitting leaves or small limbs. Again, in all of my years of working with peregrine falcons this is new to me. We have had cameras on nesting falcons for twenty years and not witnessed this behavior."
We've seen a lot of mortality this year at nest boxes. Of sites that hatched falcons, seven have experienced losses - a record for us. Per the quote, Bob theorized that insects and parasites might be causing problems following an unusually late and wet spring. This gave us a chance to save the falcons, if possible, and determine if parasitism or insects had played a role in driving the young falcons from the box.
In short, GSBDweller let us know that young  falcons were jumping from the box. Bob decided this unusual behavior needed to be investigated and headed for the bluff. George Howe, director of the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, quickly put together a search team and found another climber to help Bob, since it isn't a good idea for one person to be out on rope alone.
*
George's team went up the bluff from the bottom, where they found falcon Jonathan. Bob's team waited on top, since the last young falcon was out on the perch. They didn't want to rappel and risk bumping it, since its flight feathers were too short for true flight. If the falcon fell, it might survive if it hit leaves or small branches on the way down. Or it might not. The team elected not to rappel unless the young falcon went back into the box.  However, they were able to observe clouds of insects around the young falcon and adults, once they perched. The falcons were clearly bothered by the insects that swarmed them.

Bob and Dan had pulled back from the bluff and were packing up when the last young falcon fell. Dan rappelled down to the end of his rope but was unable to find the young falcon. The talus slope is steep and covered in thick brush, and the young falcons would probably hunker down and remain quiet in the presence of human beings and other threats, making them very hard to find. The ground search is over, since at this point we would be more likely to do harm than good. We don't want to drive the young falcons from the top of the talus slope into the brambles, where Travis and Michelle would be unable to reach them.

So now we needed to decide what to do with Jonathan, the young falcon that was recovered. He was seemingly healthy. Did we want to put him back in the box? Bob decided against it, since he thought it was highly likely he would leap again. We looked at nests with falcons that were the roughly the same age. Red Wing Grain had two falcons only about a day apart in age. We decided to foster Jonathan because:
Jonathan was unharmed and should be kept in the wild if at all possible.
All four falcons abandoned the box due to flies or gnats. Even with treatment, the problem seemed likely to happen again. Since we haven't seen as severe a problem with the falcons at Red Wing, it seemed likely that fostering or augmenting Jonathan would give him the best chance at survival.
Fostering/augmenting is a proven technique that was commonly used in the early days of falcon recovery. Bob used augmentation a number of times in the early days of falcon recovery. Adult falcons don't count young, so as long as everyone is roughly the same age, augmentation can be used to introduce young falcons into the wild.
Bob will most likely be fostering/augmenting Jonathan on Wednesday morning (he will keep Jonathan in his mews for a little observation prior to release). It seems likely that our pattern of disappearing and dying young falcons might be caused by insects and parasites in some combination - a "mega-hatch" caused by the late, wet spring. We'll let you know what we find out.
See link for pics of the bugs, of the damage they do to chicks

Raptor Resource Project Great Spirit Bluff Update ~
The team is done searching for tonight. To the best of my knowledge there is no search planned for tomorrow, as sometimes, it's better to try to let the parents find them, and care for them. The chances of finding the remaining 3 falcons were much greater when the search first began, than as time went on and they fell deeper into the underbrush below. We remain hopeful that Michelle and Travis may settle down now that the search has stopped, and possibly find the other three falcons if they survived the fall, and continue to feed them, but the odds are not very good for that to happen, per Bob. The falcons were about 10 days away from fledge.

One male eyas, Jonathon, was found and is considered to be ok. Bob does not want to risk putting the falcon back in the nest box, so Jonathon is being taken to the Red Wing Grain nest box, to be augmented/fostered into a nest box there where there are two other falcons almost the same age. This process has been successful in the past, and this is what Bob feels is best. While we continue to hope that Travis and Michelle can find them, we understand that may not happen. The nest box at Great Spirit Bluff was sprayed for insects tonight with a spray that is harmless to raptors, and has been used many times in situations where the insects were causing an issue. Bob still feels strongly that the falcon reactions today, is a result of the insects, possible causing additional agitation or restlessness for them. As Bob stated before, he has never seen this happen in all of his years dealing with Peregrines.

TONI is at the LEFT EDGE, her siblings inside.
Toni went out, and in stepping from side of box to outer 2 x 4 she slipped in between.
Mandy, the chick behind her tried it and fell thru and down.
Toni recovered.  She had perched at 8.15am today briefly.

Banding was June 10
I first blogged bugs bothering babies June 11
GSB had not noticed gnats were THAT BAD when he took chicks for banding

I suspect in 2014 they will spray nest box for bugs during the banding.  Box is a perfect design, well thought out.

Chatter on June 17

At 12.45 pm I was posting when Toni almost fell between boards but scrambled up and perched.  You can see where I saw her mishap1
- she was perching up on that board at 8.15 this morning - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I emailed GSB immediately.
Raptor Resource was notified

GSBDweller Yes, we saw. This is exciting - this is what falcons do.  Parents will continue to feed her on the ground

Pop6 - first one almost fell, 2nd right behind went between rail and box, dropped out

At 1.00pm  Toni was right back out of the box, onto perch again - even trying to go onto extension, put one foot on that but decided - not right now
Toni LOVES it out there!  the life of a falcon!

Sky_Wings No Worry Zone .......... this is what falcons do !!

raptorresource Curiosity. This is a very normal thing for falcons to do at 30 days of age.

GSB - which chick fell?
GSBDweller - I think it was Mandy

1.15pm  it looks like Toni is now perched also
1.20 pm Jonathon, chick #2 flew off toward Travis ledge - that was a nice fly off even if early

GSBDweller I think this is one of the boys. That looks like Toni still in the box.

1.27 pm  Stolt, 3rd chick dropped down right in front of box where Mandy went down

GSBDweller There are trees and brush below, not straight drop.

raptorresource - This has been a bad year for the falcons.
Bob is theorizing that unusually high numbers of insects and parasites might be causing some of the problems.

3.30pm  raptorresource They are going down to spray box - massive infestation of parasites/bugs.

Both parents kept coming to Toni.  It sure looked to me like they wanted her out of the box too.
Michele brot food in, showed Toni, left with it.
Kept flying to Toni then exiting box.  I believe parent wants her out.
raptorresource disagrees with me

NOTES
Chicks were always quiet if parent not there with food, so quiet is not bad
The last week of June we could see the chicks flying.

GSB posted this video today
LISTEN to Toni's voice - to recognize it when you hear her call.
June 17  Michele feeds Toni for the last time in the nestbox
She snoozes as much as gnats will permit, then ventures out to perch for relief but stumbles, screams for Mom who comes to her.
Toni dives under Mom!  Just adorable.  She lies down for Mom to eat gnats off her.
9.45 Mom leaves and  Toni tries going out again, slips again, screams and goes back in box.
She had really scared herself when her sibling stept on her tail and fell, causing toni to slip badly and nearly fall.
Mom in and out - WITHOUT FOOD, so I believe she wants Toni out of the box, down below with the rest.

At 16.13  Michele on perch clearly luring Toni OUT of box
22.19  Toni screems and Mom flies in - without food.  You can see how intensely miserable chick is!
Twitching head, scratching, trying to dive under mom.  YOU stand 600 feet up from ground on one foot and scratch with the other!
As Mom eats gnats off Toni u can hear tapping - thats Toni.
38.60  Toni is at the box edge again
47.00  Toni goes outside box, clumsily, slipping struggling clumsy
 -  She uses her wings - you can see that - we can realisticly believe all landed softly and are fine.
-  To think their parents couldnt find them is absurd - of course they know where they are

Great Spirit Bluff Peregrine Falcon Update

By now most of you are aware that all four young falcons jumped from the nest box at Great Spirit Bluff on June 17th.
They were approximately 10 days away from fledging. Searchers were only able to find one of four falcons.
Bob evaluated Jonathan, a male, and decided to augment/foster Jonathon into another nest box rather than risk having him jump out again.
He chose Red Wing Grain as the new site, since the two young falcons there are about the same age as Jonathon.
We fostered Jonathon on the morning of June 19th and he seems to have adapted quite well to his new surroundings.

We chose not to continue the search after the first night. Like many young animals, the falcons either hide or try to scurry under cover when they hear threats approaching.
We didn't want to drive them so deep in into the undergrowth that Michelle and Travis couldn't reach them.
Since then, we have heard the young falcons calling from the area below the nest box, and we have witnessed Michelle and Travis carrying what appears to be prey down below.
We hope to see the young falcons at the nest box or on the ledge again, but only time will tell.

NEST BOX
We have received numerous questions regarding the nest box at Great Spirit Bluff. Is it a safe box? It is.
In the Midwest alone, over 1,000 falcons have been produced at nest boxes that use this design, which provides shelter from the weather and perches for sitting.
Netting under the boxes is out of the question, since the falcons would snag their talons, and holes or venting in the side of the boxes to let in wind would also let in rain and snow.

Absent external stimuli, Bob has never seen young falcons jump from a nest box or cliff as they did at Great Spirit Bluff.
He believes that insects caused the young falcons to stampede from the box.
Please refer to this blog post for more information about insects, intervention, and fosterage
http://raptorresource.blogspot.co...t-bluff-falcons-intervention.html

Although we knew the gnats and black flies were bad, we were unable to intervene,
since that would most likely have caused the young falcons to jump before they had developed their flight feathers.
In short, the risk of injury or death was higher if we went to the box than if we did not.
This was an unusual and unfortunate situation. We haven't seen it before and we hope never to see it again.

June 20  Update on Jonathon Falcon chick Per Bob Anderson:
Yesterday morning we placed Jonathon in the Red Wing Grain falcon nest box
atop the stack house overlooking the Mississippi River and the river town of Red Wing, MN.
There are two other young falcons in the nest that are both females and a tad behind Jonathan in feathering,
but are all both the same age as Jonathon.
The fostering went smooth and after a few hours the adult falcon was confirmed feeding all three falcons.

Jonathon the falcon is now being raised by his older sister a falcon named Laura, therefore his two nest mates are his nieces.
Prior to Redwing he was kept in my falconry mews and he ate very well.

Shocked   We crashed their cam!
Red Wing Grain has limited bandwidth at their Company and yesterday
the viewership to the falcon cam taxed their computers so much that they had to shut down the Bird Cam temporarily.
They have told me that they will try to have it on as much as they can, as well as in the evenings and on the weekends. ~ Bob

A big thank you to the Howe family for responding so quickly, climber Dan (who sprayed nest box June 17) for last minute assistance,

VIDEOS
I heard Mandy's calls after she'd gone down
I have a good idea which chick is who in the pics.
Toni was FIRST out - but she was LAST to go down
Mandy stept on Toni's tail.
Jonathan the larger male was kakking twice.
Both Mandy and the smallest male Stolt slipt down at the same point, they may be near each other.
Summer, falcon expert, also said 2 may be near each other.  She distinctly heard 3 chicks calling from below.

GSBDweller - Shep, yes - Stolt is the smallest

The FALLS  June 17 videos
My own opinion.  The gnats (bugs) are so bad, the chicks are desparate to get away from them - and perch outside before they are ready.
Female chick Toni goes out onto perch, partly falls inbetween, peeps and flaps and gets back up and perches, #2 Mandy steps on tail

#1 - 1st falcon, Mandy, falls from box
Toni goes out, LEFT edge, slips backward, flaps n squawks, hangs more of her down than up but keeps flapping her wings, brave girl!
She rights herself - amazing!  That was one heck of a good struggle!  One of the males in right corner begins peeping.
Mandy right behind her comes and steps on Toni's tail, slips thru between box and perch, goes down flapping.
This video is very short - actually cuts off too soon.

This is the longer version of this June 17 video of Mandy's fall
9.55 Mom feeds the 4.  the action begins at 27.00
Toni slips, Jonathan kakks a warning
Mandy falls thru. Later I hear her screaming from below.  Toni is panting from all the excitement.
Chicks in box scratch and twitch poor things, bugs terrible
Mandy right behind her comes and steps on Toni's tail, slips thru between box and perch, goes down flapping.
I HEARD Mandy screaming loudly from below so I know she is OK - at least survived.

#2 - 2nd falcon falls from box - Jonathon, off left edge of box
He slipped, flew-flap left away - did he try for the ledge?

Jon is being raised by his big sister Laura with 2 neices

June 22    rain, lightning, thunder
3.00am temp 71 and rain, lots of lightning, thunder
-  This storm pummeled Canada with bad floods, and now is drenching our 3 chicks below
3.45 am I thot I heard a great horned owl.  That would not be good for our chicks.  Cams d/c due to storm.

9.30 am saw 2 birds flying near box - I cant tell if M and T or
- bird just flew R to L and down near cam
- now I hear a chick - so bird I saw probly T or M went down to feed them

Summerfly said our falcon chicks have fledged. Now they must fly
When they leave the nest that is called fledge
We hope to see them fly for our cam after June 26 or so, NOT exact.

7.25am parent flew a loop toward river n back calling!
I see and hear parent falcon flyin over trees toward cam, likely hunting to feed chicks and themselves

8.24 am  Michele has a small ledge near her  chicks we have found her on.  Leafy bush hides her a lot
8.30 am Travis kakking. WHOA!  sounds angry! will he bring prey here to M to prepare?

10.55 am  I hear cries for food from young falcons below
one cry sounds very close, another farther off
The parents are fly-playing a lot to show young how fun it is
They will tempt young up up higher and higher all day, using food as a lure
We just may see Stolt or Terry or Mandy soon on the tiny ledge Michele has been on the past 2 days
6.20 pm  we heard the sounds of the whole falcon family

Chicks arent vocalizing as much.  They are self feeding now, parents probly just drop the bird off.

GSBDweller, John Howe, Shares His Personal Experience on the Banding of the Peregrine Falcons at Great Spirit Bluff ~

Great Spirit Bluff has been owned and in the care of the Howe family since "Grandpa George" purchased the property in the 1950's. The property, along with the original dwellings, has been protected with a conservation easement through the MN Land Trust (MLT). The Raptor Resource Project is partnering with the Mississippi Valley Conservancy (MVC), Wisconsin's Land Trust organization along the Mississippi Bluff Corridor, to preserve bluff land for Peregrines, eagles and other wildlife species.

At the time of banding, it was determined that there were two females, and two males, all very healthy.
The young falcons were named by the Howe family, and the names of the falcons are as follows:

Jonathon - Named after our son who put in the GSB web cam as his Boy Scout Eagle project.
Stolt (male falcon) - Named after a student in the LaCrosse area who recently passed away unexpectedly.
Mandy (female falcon) - Named after a young woman who has been missing in our city (Eden Prairie) since 5/1/13.
Toni (female falcon) - Named after a friend/husband/father who passed away just days ago from a battle with cancer (Tony).

The process of climbing used during the banding process is called rappelling.

Mr. Howe wanted to share his personal experience with everyone, so here are his words:

Mr. Howe writes:
Banding the Peregrine Falcons on Great Spirit Bluff was very special this year, especially for me personally. Bob approached my father around 2004 to attempt to re-establish falcons on the bluff and I remember a cable, camera, and small black & white TV monitor placed in my father's garage displaying the falcons out in the nest box that RRP placed there. The video monitoring system did not last very long with the help of critters in the woods and their taste for CCTV cable, but several years later the idea for a permanent falcon camera on the bluff was revisited and revived.

The idea was very exciting for me as I can remember the stunning experience as a young man gazing out across the Mississippi River Valley on a breezy afternoon only to be surprised by a Bald Eagle rising up on the wind currents 20 feet in front of me, turning its head, and gazing at me before soaring off into the valley below! The idea of watching falcons was new to me as I grew up in the 70's and 80s - a time void of the Peregrine falcons that once were a prominent resident there.

Since 2005, it has been an annual family experience to welcome the RRP staff to Great Spirit Bluff and help with the banding activities. Each year brings new friends, experiences, and of course, new falcons. And this year with the help of Bob, Amy and Dave, I got to brush up on my rappelling skills (from the 1980s), learn how to climb in the "UP" direction too, and assist with banding four precious young falcons at the bluff that holds a special place in my heart and childhood. It was an experience that I will never forget and as exciting as anything I have ever done! You can see the look of sheer joy and excitement on my face. It is very rewarding to help the RRP staff with this worthy cause and to be more involved with the annual banding activities!

~ John Howe ~ June 23, 2013

The Raptor Resource Project thanks the Howe family for all that they do in their conservation and protection efforts.

th Great Spirit Bluff Peregrine Falcon Update ~
Jonathon fledged on June 25th! It was noticeable yesterday that only two falcons remained in the nest box at Red Wing Grain, where Jonathon was fostered, so Mr. Howe (GSBDweller) drove to Red Wing and got photos showing Jonathon after his successful fledge. His two female nest mates are still in the nest box. This photo is Jonathon at Red Wing Grain.

In other good news, we also have video of one, possibly two, of the falcons that had fallen from the nest box on June 17th at Great Spirit Bluff, that have now fledged and can be seen flying in the area below the nest box. Here is a video highlight of one or two of them flying:

6/26/13  From GSBDweller
Surprises abound at GSB
. Not only did we capture this amazing video of one of our fledgling falcons reaching the nest box area,
we also discovered that we mis-ID'd the falcon recovered on 6/17/13.
Stolt was relocated to Red Wing, and we are now seeing Jonathon at GSB.
Looks like Jonathon thinks he is part bat the way he clings onto that wall. Later in the video M or T comes up onto the nest box with food.
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/34938053/highlight/375429

WHY this error?
My analysis July 5, 2013 of the error in identifying recovered falcon chick sent to Red Wing.

The FIRST thing any PROFESSIONAL would have done is record that band number.
There is absolutely NO valid reason for RRP to have mis-identified the chick sent to Red Wing.  NONE.
The GSB falcons all had band numbers.  RRP had them - and the bird for 24 hours June 17-19.
Even if in the stress of June 17 the chick was ID'd wrong, Bob Anderson should have made the correction June 18th.
He had Stolt with him prior to sending it to Red Wing.  Several had Stolt in hand and could have checked the band so easily.
The FIRST thing any PROFESSIONAL would have done is record that band number.
Those people at RRP ARE NOT PROFESSIONALS!  Was it an INTENTIONAL error?

I have known things RRP did not know.  I am NOT a falcon expert!
When the band showed the chick at GSB to be Jonathon,
I wondered if he'd flown home 94 miles from Red Wing!  That seemed utterly absurd!

I dont blame Mr. GSBDweller, he does not claim to be an expert.
In his great excitement of finding a falcon who fell, he called the male Jonathon, named for his son.

Bob Anderson of RRP certainly DOES NOT deserve the Eagle Rare award!
Ed Clark of WCV won it once.  He deserves it!  He and his staff are professionals.

I have to call the juvie a name, so I chose who is who.

4.50 am  Screaming falcon chorus begins, 1 lands on box perch, 1 on ledge
4.50 am - I saw both kids, perch likely Toni, ledge Jon - no guarantees. Mandy may be up top
Is a falcon chick on the ledge a Ledgling?
8.30 am  2 juvies together blufftop corner - Mandy's perch - Jon and female, Mandy and Jon
8.45 am  Mandy and Jon -  food begging - or a kiss.  Very sweet how close they are, so happy to see each other

People love Darkness instead of Light because their deeds are Evil.
John 3:19

Too bad some love Evil and hate Light - even any imagined hint of Light.

GSB has shut down the SS overnite SONday, June 30th.  Wicked people came on and began throwing insults.
I left SS for an hour or so - TWICE - on SONday because of them.

Those of the Darkness will be delighted to de-Light GSB - sadly. its easy to tell who is of the Darkness and they are driven to destroy the Light.
Decorah rules allow Darkness no hint of Light.

Children of Light, lets wait til Monday see what happens.  I emailed GSB.  Pray he doesnt let Darkness, Evil win.  Its been the single refuge for us.

Environmentalism is a religion, its a cult, and its NOT of the Light.

You can tell a lot about people by their avatar.  The *peace* sign is a symbol of the occult, witchcraft, satanism - display it and you identify with Evil, the Darkness, enemies of GOD.
http://tinyurl.com/oclt666pc

The saddest part is - I am the one attacked by those who love Darkness -
yet I am the one blamed for GSB deleting SS
I wish people would blame the ones who attacked me.
Only maybe 10% of those who come to GSB are evil - yet they ruined it.

Crying or Very sad   No SS to chat on, GSB shut it down last nite when the Dark Side attacked the Light
-  The Darkness cannot bear the Light - not even an imagined hint of Light.  Only 10% are nasty but ruined it for 90%

5.00 am  I can hear the kids hollering as dawn breaks
5.50 am  Loud squeeling as juvie flew after parent - who probly has food

Around noon Jonathon and Mandy preening on the tree root  (cedar)

6. 23 am  Screaming juvie flew past, and juvie on ledge flew after

RRP Forum post - It gives me hope that perhaps Cassie did survive her fall last year.  I think she was about the same age at the time.

~ Great Spirit Bluff Peregrine Falcon Fledglings
This picture (Left below) is Mandy on the left, and Jonathon on the right. They have been identified by their band numbers.
We believe we have seen 3 flying around, two for sure. Females are a bit slower to fledge since they are larger,
which results in a few extra days for feather growth. Stolt fledged from Red Wing Grain, and will most likely remain in that location.

CJ

To me from GSBDweller July 2 - which I saw the morning of July 3
Good evening - we are making preparations to open up the social stream again.  I want to first say that you have done a very nice job documenting the season and happenings at Great Spirit Bluff.  Thank you for that!  Thank you for your watchful eye and detailed documentation.  My family and I have worked closely with Bob and the Raptor Resource Project to help in whatever way we can to repair the damage that man-made chemicals had on raptors and the Peregrine falcon.  Our relationship goes back for years and we know the RRP staff well.  They are our friends.  The equipment, know-how, and web design for GSB Falcons are all due to the RRP staff and the collaborative project with them.  I don't personally know many of the moderators for other RRP sites.  It is their job to keep the peace so the social stream and chat sites do not get totally out of control.  Your challenge of the rules and personal interactions with people you label as "dark" is evidence of that need.  We are intimately linked to RRP and will continue to work hand-in-hand with them.

When the GSB SS is used to forward an agenda and participants do not respect other participants and the RRP rules, that is a problem.  Calling RRP or others "dark" or "mean" openly on the SS, placing judgment on other people's motives, and passing those judgments on through UStream comment pages is inappropriate.  It shows you do not respect the job that they have to do or the rules.  The rules state that SS participants should give posters the benefit of the doubt regarding the intent of their comments.  While you may interpret the peace sign in a negative way, the vast majority of the general public interpret this as a positive and compassionate symbol and that is the most likely intent behind the avatar.  Bullying others to change their avatars is not acceptable use of the GSB SS.  GSB is a place where all should be able to relax and enjoy nature.  It is not a place to judge and label others - Light/Dark, Good/Evil.  This is very divisive and offensive to most.  Judgments are hurtful to those on the receiving end, as you know.  When tossed out in public, they are often returned in retaliation.  This is precisely the reason the behavior cannot and will not be tolerated.

Since you have stated that you are already as careful as you intend to be with your comments, we are sorry to inform you that you will no longer be allowed to post under Shep77 on the SS at GSB.  Because of your personal contributions and regular presence, you were given a great deal of leeway.  Others have been banned for much less.  At present, you are welcome to watch the live video at any time, but your privilege to comment has been revoked.  Others that were participating will receive a warning and be also banned for similar challenge of the SS rules.

We wish you well in your ministry.  FYI - Mandy is alive and well...now the hunt for B 36.

My reply to John Howe / GSBDweller

July 3, 2013

GSBDweller / John Howe

You have chosen Satan over the LORD GOD.
That is sad.  I had truly hoped you'd be fair.

You are pre-banning me on the basis of my blog / cp - not on the basis of what I post on SS
HOWE on earth is that fair, when others are not banned who have openly attacked me - often - on SS?

Bullying
I did NOT "challenge the rules" I said I have not broken them.
HisWhisper, AmeliaAirhawk, Michelethefalcon and others have "bullied" me on GSB SS and elsewhere.
Their desire is to get me banned.  They succeeded on other cams.
Satan's children cannot tolerate the Light and must kill it.  Their due punishment awaits them.
I have often left SS an hour or 2 due to their bullying - yet those are who you have chosen to side with.

Humans are created in the image of GOD, not birds - much as we like falcons.
You have chosen to worship the creation rather than the Creator.  *Sad sad
Romans 1

The time is very near people will die for the Name of Christ - or be count among the goats.
Matthew 25:32

I said all along the female falcon was Mandy.  I am usually right - about MANY things.  I am informed - on many things.

John, I am deeply sad you have made your choice.
I know it was not with prayer.

In Jesus Name,

Shep / Pastor CJ

You were formerly Darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord - walk as children of Light.
Ephesians 5:8

Ye are all the children of Light, and the children of the Day, we are not of the Night, nor of Darkness.
1 Thessalonians 5:5

Sad   July 3, 2013
I have been banned.  GSB has chosen to blame me for the problems on his SS.
The guilty will NOT be banned, only me.  In fact I am pre-banned - before I even post anything wrong!
Gotta keep the Light out, draw the shades!  Darkness will now rule GSB SS as it has elsewhere.
I have liked the falcons but birds are NOT our ministry or objects to worship.
They are the creation - NOT THE CREATOR.  Romans 1

I will be counted among the sheep on that Day.  Matthew 25
I'd hate to be counted among the goats.  That Day is very near.

RRP chooses mods who intensely despise Christians (children of Light).
I have seen RRP mods post things of Darkness OFTEN - violating their own rules.
Environmentalism is a RELIGION and deeply steeped in satanism and anti-Christ.
http://cj.myfreeforum.org/about3992.html

RRP mods and their pals have openly attacked me on SS then deleted their posts.
Whether you believe this is fair or not is your choice - between you and Almighty GOD.

HisWhisper, AmeliaAirhawk, Michelethefalcon and others have bullied me on GSB SS and elsewhere.
They have gotten me banned elsewhere with their attacks, then deleting what they posted.
Its OK by RRP rules to attack Christians - on the basis of what they write on our own blogs, not SS.

I knew it was Mandy on the basis of her personality.  But
Michelethefalcon posted on GSB SS - "she cant even tell Michele and Travis apart"

Evil or Very Mad   AmeliaAirhawk posted she'd got me banned elsewhere for bible thumping
I do not do any bible thumping on any SS - so that was an undeserved attack on me

Evil or Very Mad   HisWhisper with her Satanic avatar has baited and goaded me for months - on SS.
I first told her PRIVATELY that symbol identifies with witchcraft and satanism, and is very anti-Christ.
Instead of changing her avatar she chose to continue it and goad me with it and spread her evil to her pals.
They changed their avatars to witches and devils.  Their judgment awaits them.

These are allowed to post on GSB SS - I am banned without cause.

Their due punishment awaits the children of Darkness.  HELL is very real.  Luke 16

I seriously doubt the young falcons are even trying to chase, catch any prey.
Their parents are drawing them to fly after them, luring with food.
They are NOT eager to fly yet - its just too early!
It is irrational to think Toni didnt survive.  She is probably just too independent to join siblings.
Its as if some people hoped they would not survive.

I AM BANNED ON GSB SS CHAT.  I AM UNWANTED.
However I noticed the evil ones who caused the problems are still there.

SUMMER on the RIVER BLUFF

July 4, 2013
4.45 am  The falcon chorus begins.  Awhile ago the robin was singing - now its not.  hmmm.  Was it - preying?
 -  That really does sound like backup noise - you dont think falcons can fly backward?  Nah.
5.00 am falcon preening on ledge - IR, cant see colors and cam is too far to know if p or juv
5.25 am  The ledgling joined the chorus - so it was a juvie, hopped round the corner
5.37 am  2 falcons met in the air under nestbox - now juv on ledge
5.41 am  kakking - parent most probly
6.00 am  juvie eating on ledge

Boat on Mississippi River late afternoon

The SS is pretty slow now.  Hope rrp is happy.  no I dont

Juvie - Toni? - spends the nite on the roof

Mandy joins Toni on roof of nestbox

July 5, 2013
4.00 am  One of the juvies roosted on the nestbox roof!  LOL! Does it hope to get the first food there?
That sounds like something Toni would do.  I am sure she is around just not joining her siblings.  I believe I saw her June 29  at 8.00 pm on the perch, Mom fed her
I saw one chick go inside the box several days ago too
I hear it rustling around up there, so its awake, not quite dawn yet, preening

4.50 am  Screaming begins!  4.55 am it finally flew off after screaming.  Did it see parent?
Then it came back and perched on side perch

6.00 am  juvie (Toni?) dancing on the roof hahahahahaha
You heard of Riverdance?  thats - Falcondance - Its clogging around the roof hahaha

6.07 am  I SEE 2 - 1 on ledge too - a ledgling lol
6.30 am Jon just flew off ledge and Toni is still on roof - Mandy joined her - both on roof
7.45 am  Jon and Mandy feeding on ledge

-  There is a grassy *chair* up on bluff - nice hangout for falcon
12.30 pm falcon juvie in the chair. Another flew to join but bounced off - rather odd sight

RaptureRaptor is truly EVIL!  BEWARE!

End rant
July 5, 2013

WHY is RRP focusing on not IDing Toni by her band NOW, when its obvious she is there?
WHY didnt RRP care about the band when they picked Stolt up June 17th?
And they didnt care about the band on June 18 - or on June 19th.

How hard is it to check the band?
CJ

July 5th, RRP posted to facebook
We're still hoping to get a close up on Toni to ID her, as she is the only one left that has not been ID'd by her band.
Both Jonathon and Mandy have been ID'd for sure.
Stolt fledged from Red Wing Grain, and is still in that area.
The falcons are maintaining a positive flight pattern very well now and we are still hoping to catch all three of them together to be able to confirm Toni as well.

The accidental fludge
June 24, 2013
I have put the fall of the 4 falcon chicks on this separate link
The accidental fludge, all 4 chicks gone same day.  Special photos and notes in sequence show why each fell.
So desparate to get away from hoardes of biting gnats (bugs) they went out to perch before they were really ready.
I believe Michele WANTED them out and downstairs - away from bugs.

Mandy and Toni on roof

WHY is the band number important NOW - when it wasnt important to ID Stolt June 17th?
Its lunacy to need RPP to confirm both Toni and Mandy.  You have eyes.  You see them together.
RRP couldnt even ID Stolt when Bob had Stolt IN HAND 48 hours.
It is insanity to call it a *miracle* all 4 survived!
GOD created these birds to dwell on cliffs!  They fall all the time and survive.
Its wonderful, but its no miracle.

5.06 am  Another falcon flies by screaming and ledgling follows
At dawn I saw ledgovers laying there from Jon's meal last nite
7.40 am  Juvie arrived on ledge eating
8.30 am  2 falcons on ledge sort of fighting, one flew off, looks like the other is snacking on ledgovers.
 -  Picks food up and carries it to north side of ledge out of view
9.15 am  two on the ledge

owlboxmagic post -  fledgling (?) on nest cam
- my guess is Toni - she likes the nestbox - but I never saw it. There are 2 shadows, optical illusion bird

It was very windy this morning - now this afternoon its calmer

Since the falcons are so quiet so much of the day, perhaps the chicks are catching their own food now.

5.45 am  Falcon landed on ledge, de-feathering her food - rip, ptooee!  rip, ptooee!  Doin a good job.
  -  I thot I saw wind blowing some fluff so maybe its Toni
6.10 am  Saw screaming falcon dive off blufftop, followed by 2nd

Sky_wings posted July 11 on raptore forum
I believe the following snips offer a perspective into the events of July 5th.
Mandy & Jonathan July 4th Photo  - Huge size difference AND very little to no fluffy down.
Photos # 2 and 3 - Next day and lots of fluffy down ... To me, this is the give-away being as Mandy and Jonathan have virtually none the day before.
Photos # 4, 5 and 6 - Size is too similar, so unlike the size difference in the Mandy and Jonathan pic AND certainly not the typical male / female size ratio of 30%.
In my opinion, the mystery fluffy down juvie is indeed Toni and I choose to remain cautiously optimistic that she is alive and well and thriving.

The only way to know for certain is a leg band ID OR to see all three juvies in the same screen / video shot at the same time.  The odds of the latter happening are slim to none

Mandy with her first kill on cliff ledge July 12

July 12, 2013
4.48 am  Falcon touched down on ledge, preened, flew off - quietly  *faint* - 2 minutes later it returned.  Mandy?
 -  Also saw another falcon fly from behind bluff toward river
4.57 am  She is still walking around ledge - quietly, flew off at 5.06
It was female juvie  - and since it was quiet and stretched her wing - Mandy, not Toni

2.30 pm  Mandy quietly defeathering then eating her kill on ledge
 -  pull, ptooee!  pull ptooee! good work Mandy.  That is REALLY HARD WORK pulling feathers off your meal.
3.00 pm I have heard her sibling but not to close.  She looks up every time she hears it too.
3.12 pm  After a good meal (pigeon?) she carries it a couple feet to stash the rest for later

GSBDweller This looks like a "first kill" - No feathers removed.  may be a female - flatter head

If you have any questions you can post them on my cp. I will post reply on your cp.

Fun Falcon Facts
Sky wings and Del chat on blog sent me on a search for some info.  Thanx a lot dudes.
I needed something to do while waiting for Zimmerman to be aquitted.

I saw a discussion on the blog about the territory of falcons.
I doubt its known.  They do defend their territory during breeding season.
Red Wing is 95 miles from GS bluff.  5 falcons at each location, total 10 falcons.
There are other falcons on both sides along the river.
Just posting facts for whoever wants to read them.

Delaware Peregrine Falcons
Wilmington falcon webcam

Feb. 2, 2011
The peregrine falcons nest in this box atop Wilmington's Brandywine Building.
Last year, the eggs did not hatch after the female falcon had no help incubating them when the older male falcon left.
This year's egg-laying should start in April.

DNREC Falcon Cam update: Four chicks, all fit and outfitted with bands for future flight and fateThe four peregrine falcon chicks given starring roles on the DNREC Falcon Cam – sponsored by the Delaware Ornithological Society and DuPont’s Clear Into the Future initiative – were outfitted for their own ornithological future this week. They were banded Tuesday by the US Fish & Wildlife Service so as to enable the gathering of biological and biographical data from them as they spread their wings into adulthood. May 15, 2013

Cam is outta focus and covered with spider webs but I think this is Toni

July 14, 2013  Sunday
5.00 am juvie on ledge around the other side - quietly
6.30 am  I hear at least 2 juvies but dont see them
 -  I dont know where Toni is but she sure is loud.  At one point I heard Jonathon, his voice is higher.
11.30 am  Juvie on nestbox pole - probly Toni except she's quiet.  perching and scratching very well.  sat there half hour then left.
Too bad there was no one to get a closeup of band
1.20 pm juvie arrived on ledge, eating
1.45 pm  juvie walked around to the other side and there was another juvie there.  Both together but nearly outta sight.
 -  I suspect each had food and ate it out of the sight of the other.  so sweet how falcons get along.
7.15 pm  Juvie scratchin n screamin on the ledge. runs to the blind side and back. gotta be Toni.
7.10 pm  Saw 3 falcons fly up to the blind side of the bluff.  Darn!  We want you kids to line up where we can SEE you!

Shocked    JONATHON is the last man standing - err - last bird

BLUFF WARS!!   July 15, 2013

5.42 am  I hear crows.  They mob raptors, but this is the first time I have heard them on the bluff.
6.45 am  Screaming female juvie arrives on ledge with kill.  A moment later Jonathon arrives to challenge for her food.  Whole lotta flappin goin on!   Shocked
  -   Jonathon stole his sister's kill - Naughty boy!  He stole it and is still screaming, then flew off and LEFT IT!
 -  I wonder if that was noisy Toni's food.  If she had shut up she may have kept it.

9.00 am  2 juvies around bluff, one comes back to food he left earlier today.
 -   Juvie appears to have hurt its leg or foot, may have got it stuck in the dead bird, then it was limping considerably.
9.30 am  One juvie seems to have been flying around the bluff area screaming much of the morning.  My guess is Toni.

GSBDweller - Jonathon and Mandy were both at the rock ledge around 6:50 with food
He DOES NOT know if that was Mandy or Toni because he denies Toni is up on the bluff too.  Shameful really.

Summerfly's falcons - all 4 eggs hatch, all 4 chicks have been sighted

5.09 am  pre-dawn falcon screaming, touchdown on ledge, leaves - screaming.  Most likely Toni.
9.04  am  2 juvies on ledge, one (Toni?) still limping
-  Toni landed on the ledge, another ran out from other side - Toni is loud and limping
-  Toni flew off and the other ran back to the blind side
9.19 am  Oh now I see the 2nd juvie, he is eating deep inside bluff, pretty dark under there.
 -  hmmmm ... I think thats Jonathon hanging out under the ledge overhang, and running around to and from the blind side
11.08 am  juvie still hanging in shade deep under ledge overhang, de-feathering a bird
 -  Evidently thats his hangout
4.00 pm falcon being VERY loud and persistent, but cant see it

5.00 am  Falcon juvie standing silently briefly on ledge bend.  I bet it sleeps around the bend overnite.
 -  That one flew off, then juv landed on ledge screaming for a couple minutes, flew off.
5.14 am  She's back screaming her head off.  Im sure its Toni
5.16 am  Now I hear the others too
2.00 pm  Someone saw 2 juvies on ledge
4.53 pm  I saw and heard a falcon flying up
4.55 pm  Saw another falcon fly up
5.00 pm  Jonathon lands on ledge with supper.  He is really tuggin on that bird.
 - He is so cute.  Looks so much like his daddy

July 18, 2013
Incredibly beautiful clear sunny day, deep rich blue river waters.

5.00 am  Robin singing, hope he isnt breakfast
5.02 am  and there's Jonathon standing on the ledge curve.  I think he just awoke. Cam zoomed on him and he walked around to other side outta sight.
5.06 am  He walked back to the front - in a little outcropping, stood a minute, walked around under the ledge overhang then jumped off.

8.45 am  WOW!  I think I saw an EAGLE - ? -  fly past bluff going north - too close to our falcons!
 -  I dont think that was a falcon - but its hard to tell.  Then it came back on the other side of the hiway, further away - then it looked smaller.  hmmm.

GSBDweller looks like some turkey vultures checking out the bluff

8.56 am  he swooped by again - very nearby - goin south - they are flying back n forth
 -  WHERE are Michele and Travis?  Wouldnt they keep them out of their airspace?

9.30 am  NOW I hear kakking - was that parents?  One went to ledge - cam too far to see well
That little stinker!  Cam zoomed - it was Jonathon!  Well I'd seen-heard him kak twice before he fell june 17th.
There was more than one falcon calling.  -  The calling went on

3.20 pm  I saw 2 falcons, 1 flew into bluff tree the other flew screaming to other side

5.00 am  Falcon on ledge curve facing river, 5.04 spreads wings and exits - all silent and cam very dark. IR is on, first ray of dawn
- rain on radar nearby
 -   Cam off til after 7am
8.20 am  Saw and heard falcon fly to blufftop

3.00 pm  U.S. Highway 61 was blocked southbound for awhile, then I heard a siren pass
3.09 pm another siren screams past traffic.  Traffic is at a standstill - not moving at all
3.15 pm  traffic moving. Im glad the mic isnt picking up what drivers are saying.  Hope gas tanks are full.
There is major road construction - evidently also involves a bridge

3.55 pm  I hear a squealing falcon - a rather odd sound, not the usual sound.  Cant see him, cam too far away
Traffic still really S L O W  but moving

I have not seen Michele or Travis.  I hope nothing happened to them.  Perhaps they flew down to see Stolt, who knows.  (humor)

So many miss the GSB bluff fall pic so I pulled it from GSB album.

I'll trade ya 5 falcons for a lock n boat

4.30 am  I thot I'd watch closely to see where our falcon sleeps.
-  If we call the main flat part of the ledge 'main' and when they jump up the step - 2nd floor - juvie sleeps on 2nd floor.
-  At 4.45 am the dawn barely outlined the trees below.  About 4.49 juvie stood, stretched, turned and jumped down to main floor, silently flew off.
-  There had been multiple dark shadows, it could have been the whole family!  But, just one.  Wish we could view the blind side.

July 21, 2013 Sunday
4.45 am  Train, then a shadow moved, and a falcon emerged from deep in crevice.
It walked around, preened a disheveled feather on its back, then at 4.48 it flew off.

9.35 am  Saw Mr GSB's hand cleaning cam lens, now he will try to trim tree/bush
 -  Sounds like it began raining while he was trimming

6.45 am  I saw nothing today but a single white feather
 -  I think there are uneaten food birds scattered about the ledge.  Whether just carcas or to be eaten who left them unknown.
If anything happened today I missed it.  If anyone else is posting about these falcons, I dont know about it.

July 23, 2013
4.45 am  Cam still on the river.  The falcons get up NOW - cam should be on the ledge now.  Very irritating!
- This is the ONLY time of day I see the falcons!  No sign of them during the days now.
5.30 am  cam finally on ledge but falcons long gone.  I heard one earlier.
6.08 am  Heard a falcon calling
1.30 pm  Travis on ledge.  Its good to see him!
3.13 pm  Heard a falcon - one is on ledge, and another flew up top of bluff.  Ledge could be adult but cam too far away.
3.30 pm  Travis looks up and toward river, gentle kakking
4.50 pm  Travis flew off - a minute later a screaming falcon dove past ledge
6.20 pm  Juvie laying on the cable on top of the bluff, later stands and overlooks the river.  Thinking this is Jon.
- He went to get a ball of food, dragged it around, I think he was eating it.  Reminds me of a cat - they play with their food sometimes.
