Nadine Becomes A Hurricane Again

Nadine Becomes A Hurricane Again
Sept 28, 2012
For the second time during its 18-day tenure, Tropical Storm Nadine has strengthened into Hurricane Nadine.
The storm currently has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph) just above the threshold for hurricane strength making it a Category 1 hurricane. The storm also has a discernable central eye in satellite imagery, forecasters from the U.S. National Hurricane Center noted, a hallmark sign of a hurricane.

Nadine has been wandering around an area of the ocean near the Azores in the last couple weeks and currently lies 730 miles (1,175 kilometers) southwest of the islands.
Nadine first became a named storm on Sept. 11. (Storms in the Atlantic Ocean basin receive a name when they reach tropical storm strength). On Sept. 14, Nadine became a hurricane for the first time (making it the eighth hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic season).

On Sept. 21, the storm had diminished enough as it moved over cooler ocean waters that forecasters downgraded it to a remnant low pressure system (meaning it lacked the organization and strength to qualify as a tropical cyclone). But Nadine didn't stay down for long: As of the morning of the 23rd, it was a tropical storm again.
Nadine is moving toward the northwest right now and its strength is projected to remain about the same over the weekend, according to the latest NHC update, though by Monday it is expected to have weakened back into a tropical storm.

No other named storms have formed since Nadine first sprang into action at the traditional peak of the hurricane season. Forecasters amended their predictions for the season in August, projecting that the season would likely see 12 to 17 named storms, of which five to eight were expected to become hurricanes. So far, there have been 14 named storms, of which eight became hurricanes.
At this point in the year, the hurricane season is now typically on the wane, but storms have been known to form late in the season, and even after the season's official Nov. 30 end date.

THAT IS SO WEIRD!  The storm that wont die!
Nadine a hurricane again

Non-stop Nadine has regenerated to hurricane strength again, as the long-lived storm enters its 16th day of life. Nadine is not expected to be a threat to any land areas for the next seven days, but moisture associated with Nadine has flowed eastwards over Spain, bringing heavy rains and flooding problems

Nadine still holds together September 29, 2012
Zombie Storm Nadine is a storm that came back to life and just won't die over the Central Atlantic.
The reborn tropical system has become a hurricane once again as of Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.
Nadine, or the circulation from Nadine, formed the same day of the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks on the United States embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and the consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
Nadine was first named a tropical storm on Sept. 12, the day after a circulation was acknowledged.

Tropical Storm Oscar expected to form soon; Nadine still going

10/3/12
A fifteenth tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season has formed in the middle of the ocean, but forecasters don't expect it to survive long.

The depression could become Tropical Storm Oscar over the next day or so. The forecast cone is taking it toward the northeast and the African coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.

But forecaster's initial public advisory on the storm says it isn't expected to last long.

Tropical Storm Nadine is meanwhile moving northward and expected to become a post-tropical cyclone by Thursday or Friday. That would be for a second time, but the storm isn't expected to regenerate this time as it did a week ago. It is expected to swipe past the Azores for a second time, dropping a couple of inches of rain.

Nadine has been an active storm for 21 days and counting as of Wednesday. That ranks the storm as the fifth-longest-lived in the Atlantic since 1851, according to the Weather Underground's Jeff Masters.

The Atlantic hurricane season is on pace to be the quietest since 2009, when there were 11 named storms. But it is already busier than an average season, which sees a dozen named storms.
