Tropical Storm Bud strengthened to become the first hurricane of the season in the eastern Pacific.
Bud is expected to slowly track northwest paralleling the Mexican coastline.
As Bud moves along, there will be light upper-level winds as well as very warm waters.
Both are important ingredients for the strengthening and maintenance of tropical systems.

Named storms before June 1 are unusual
Hurricane Bud strengthened to become a Category 2 storm Thursday as it churned toward the southwestern coast of Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said.
Bud has maximum sustained winds near 110 mph and is moving north-northeast near 9 mph, the center said in a 2 p.m. ET advisory.
Some additional strengthening is possible Thursday afternoon. Weakening "should begin tonight or early Friday and continue through Saturday," the advisory said.
"The center of Bud will be near ... the southwestern coast of Mexico late Friday and Saturday," the center said.
The official forecast track does not show the hurricane making landfall in Mexico.
Hurricane Bud now a Category 2 storm in Pacific
MIAMI (AP) — A tropical storm warning has been issued for the coast of Mexico as Hurricane Bud gains strength in the Pacific.
The tropical storm warning was in effect Thursday for Mexico's Pacific coast from Punto Telmo to Cabo Corrientes. A hurricane watch was also issued for that area.
Bud's maximum sustained winds have increased to near 105 mph (169 kph) with some some strengthening expected during the day. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says gradual weakening is expected to begin by Friday.
The storm's center is expected to approach Mexico's southwestern coast late Friday.
The hurricane is centered about 280 miles (450 kilometers) southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and is moving north-northeast near 8 mph (13 kph).

Hurricane Bud is a Category 3 storm with 115 mph winds, could hit Puerto Vallarta.
Authorities canceled schools and began preparing emergency shelters.
A hurricane warning was up for Mexico's Pacific coast from Manzanillo northwestward to Cabo.
