5.0 Earthquake YEMEN, Djibouti, Gulf of Aden near IRAN
November 14, 2010
5.0 Earthquakes YEMEN, Djibouti, Gulf of Aden near IRAN
November 10 to 14, 2010  was a quake swarm in the IRAN wide area
21 quakes between mag 5.4 and 4.5 have been occuring in this region.
Its common for quakes, but there are an unusual number.
This is where the Africa Plate and the Arabian Plate meet.
This earthquake swarm is occurring right in the middle of major oil and freight transit sea lanes, the busiest in the world.  Testing of Iranian NUKES under seas?

Multiple earthquakes off Yemen coast
Nov. 15, 2010    A flurry of earthquakes, up to 5.0 magnitude, were reported off the coast of Yemen, Djibouti and Eritrea.

The surface of the Earth is broken into 7 major plates.
The Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden were formed as the Arabian plate separated from Africa. Across both the Gulf of Aden mid-ocean ridge system and the southernmost part of the Red Sea the plates are moving, not only apart but also sliding past each other.
Geologists believe the Red Sea is still widening and in time will become an ocean.
The East African Rift System, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden form what’s know as the ‘Afar triple junction’ the centre of Sunday’s swarm of earthquakes.

Seismic Activity Tearing Africa in Two
January 2011  High-Speed Geology

The fissures began appearing years ago. But in recent months, seismic activity has accelerated in northeastern Africa as the continent breaks apart in slow motion. Researchers say that lava in the region is consistent with magma normally seen on the sea floor -- and that water will ultimately cover the desert.

Erta Ale volcano in northeastern Ethiopia was erupting.
The earth is in upheaval in northeastern Africa, and the region is changing quickly. The desert floor is quaking and splitting open, volcanoes are boiling over, and seawaters are encroaching upon the land. Africa, researchers are certain, is splitting apart at a rate rarely seen in geology.

The first fracture appeared millions of years ago, resulting in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The second fracture, stretching south from Ethiopia to Mozambique, is known as the Great Rift Valley, and it is lined with several volcanoes. Millions of years from now, it too will be filled with seawater.

But in the Danakil Depression, in the northern part of the valley, the ocean could arrive much sooner. There, low, 25 meter (82 foot) hills are the only thing holding back the waters of the Red Sea. The land behind them has already dropped dozens of meters from previous levels and white salt deposits on the desert floor testify to past encroachments of the sea. But lava soon choked off its access.

Earth tremors cause deep fissures to form in the desert floor and the ground in East Africa is shattering like broken glass. Researchers in the Gulf of Tadjoura, which juts into Djibouti from the Gulf of Aden, have recently registered a barrage of seismic shocks.
An up-tick in volcanic activity. Indeed, geologists have discovered volcanic eruptions near the earth's surface at 22 places in the Afar Triangle in northeastern Africa. Magma has caused fissures up to eight meters (26 feet) wide to open up in the ground.

Cyclone Ashooba might hit Omani coasts
Authorities say they are fully prepared as the storm is expected to move northwest

6/8/15

Muscat: The deep depression in the southeast Arabian Sea has intensified into a cyclone storm called ‘Ashooba’ and is approximately 950 km from the southeast island of Masirah off Oman’s coast.

The cyclone is expected to move northwest of the Arabian Sea in the coming two days, according to the Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) statement.

Winds at the centre of the depression are currently around 65-74 kmph.

However, the course of the storm can change at anytime, it said.

Heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall is expected to lash the south coasts of the Sharqiah governorate in the coming 48 hours and the sea will be very rough.

Tropical storm expected in next 24 hours
An official at the Public Authority for Civil Defense and Ambulance (PACDA) told Gulf News that they are fully prepared for the cyclone should it reach.

Meanwhile, Khalid Al Jahawari, an expert at Oman’s Meteorology department says he expects Ashooba to weaken as it approaches the Omani coast.

For a 10 day weather forecast, visit the GulfNews.com weather page.

Oman is usually hit with such storms around June and July.

Two major cyclones hit Oman in the past eight years: Cyclone Gonu in June 2007 and Phet in June 2010.

More than 70 people were killed due to the two cyclones and over 4 billion Omani riyals in damage was sustained.
